T4E PORCUPINE ADVANCE Whvmerinte in in 00 GOOD PROFT MADE BY 1. & N. 0. DURIRG 1921 Deal Said to be Under Way at Preâ€" sent Regarding South Porcupine Property. Every once in so often there is a reâ€" port Og the effect that the Foleyâ€" O ‘Brien may reâ€"open at an early date, but the latest report is said to be an honestâ€"toâ€"goodness one and founded on a substantial basis. It is underâ€" stood that negotiations are now under way for the securing of a controlling interest in the Foleyâ€"O‘Brien by imâ€" portant financial interests, and that these negotiations are in excellent way to being carried through to a sucâ€" cessful conclusion. If the deal goes through, it will mean that active work will be commenced on the Foleyâ€" O ‘Brien property at a comparatively early date. The development of the Foleyâ€"O ‘Brien would be looked upon with favour as another activity in the Poreupine Camp. It would be a great thing for South Poreupine, the proâ€" perty being right alongside the town at the western outskirts. In the early days of, (Poreupine great hopes were centered (round theâ€" Foleyâ€"O‘Brien. Many oldâ€"timers looked upon the proâ€" perty as one of the most promising in the Camp. However, fortune did not favour its testing out and developâ€" ment, and it has never been thoroughâ€" Few people realize that 26,445 Canâ€" adian exâ€"service men have been osâ€" tablished on the land and are nearly allâ€" making good; that Canada‘s waâ€" terâ€"power development tepresents an investment of $475,000,000, while the power produced would otherwise reâ€" quire 18,000,000 tons of coal yearly; or that nearly 88 per cent of the world‘s supply of asbhestos comes from the Province of Quebec. The Natural Resources Intelligerice Branch of the Department of the Interior, has just issued a revised edition: of ‘‘Compact Facts,‘‘ which contains in concise form, information regarding Canada; its area, population, trade and indusâ€" tries; their extent, capital invested, wages paid, values of live stock, prinâ€" cipal erops and amounts produced; mineral resources and present producâ€" tion; also forest resources and forâ€" est products. Copies of the booklet are available on application to the Suâ€" perintendent, Natural Resources Inâ€" telligence Branch, Department of the Interior, Ottawa. f centered round the â€" Foleyâ€"UQu>rien, Many oldâ€"timers looked upon the proâ€" perty as one of the most promising in the Camp. However, fortune did not favour its testing out and developâ€" ment, and it has never been thoroughâ€" ly proven up.. Through ‘the years that it has laid idle there‘ are many who have continued a firm faith in its posâ€" sibilities. (Men interested in mining in and around South Poreupine have held to & belief in the great promise of the Foleyâ€"O‘"Brien. ‘‘"‘We~ sure would like to see it thoroughly tested out,"‘ they have said. If the present deal gwoes through it appears that they will have their wish. s FACTS ABOUT CANADA‘S NATURAL RESOURCES SEPARATE DEPT. OF MINES SUGGESTED FOR DOMINION The suggestion has been made that a separate Dept. of Mines be created for the Dominion with a Minister of its own in full charge of this importâ€" ant work. This would be all right, for the mining industry is of very great importance to Canada and deâ€" serving of the greatest recognition: and assistance. At the same time it is important that all should recognize that for a great many years past the Dominion has ‘had a Dept. of Mines, though it hs not hag a separate Minis, ter in charge. Much useful work has been accomplished by the Dominion Dept. of Mines in, the way of geologic al and other reports and surveys, et«. Indeed, comparatively speaking, the Dominion Dept. has been of much greater usefulness than the Provincial Departments. During the past seven years the Dominion Dept. of Mines has expended over $3,133,000.00 in prosecuting its work in the interests of the mining industry, or at the rate of nearly $450,000.00 per year. Surâ€" veys have been made of mineral areas, geological reports given out, statisticâ€" al information gathered, and much of interest and helpfulness made availâ€" able to prospectors and mining men | generally. A minister of Mines in the Dominion Government would of course be welcoméd as aâ€"recognition of the importance of the mining industry and as promising greater interest and assistance in mining matters. sn men wear any, a gla glass fied.""
