It‘s the best advertising we can get. Many business men too busy to follow the ins and outs of the railway question, could not understand the deficitâ€"they did mot like the idea that money they paid us for freight would go into a deficit. Now when they see we are out of ‘‘red"‘ figures they are giving us more of their business. We need long haul traffic and if we can get enough of it we will pull out even in and what‘s more, it helped with a big seetionâ€"of the public. We find that there is all over Canada a better feelâ€" ing towards the National System, The fine service given by the CNR. in handling the grain this fall has also had something to do wtih it. W. The slide on the lake near the pumphouse is a beauty. It has a drop of about 200 feet from the top to the ice, and one toboggan went nearly another 200 feet one day last week after coming to the ice surface. Only about 48 feet of tressil work was necessary to comâ€" plete the slide, the rest of the slide being natural ground and the lake ice surface. At the top of the slide a 500â€" watt nitroâ€"tungsten lamp, and reflector have been placed and this illuminates the whole slide. On Sunday about 150 people took advantage of the pleasure of the fine slide. PORCUPINE LAKE CLUB READY FOR WINTER SPORTS Decemberâ€"unless the weather is very badâ€"notwithstanding the forthcomâ€" ing reduction in rates. January and February are bad months to face but we are not at all despondent about the future and if the lower rates prove any help to business the railways will certainly be pleased to handle it. Greater volume of business is what the National Railways want for Christmas and our socks are hanging up all along the line from the Atlantic to the Pacific‘‘ concluded ‘Mr. Hanna. The formal opening of the new slide is scheduled for Friday evening of this week, Dec. 16th. Tobogganing will commence at 7.30. At 10 o‘clock there will be a chicken supper at the Dominion Cafe for the members of the Club. The Club has already over 45 members. Mr. B. V. Harrison, of Cobalt, w a visifor to the Camp last week. TIE PORCUPINE ADVANCE as Timmins bowlers now have thoir league going along with a swing. For this season there are six teams, these teams being captained respectively by Messrs. Viland, MaLean, Alton, Braâ€" zeau, Melntyre and MeGraw. It is exâ€" pected that this season‘s games are going to beâ€"especially keenly contestâ€" ed. In any event the teams are putâ€" ting up good games and the winners will have to work for any victories. There is great interest in bowling and a goodly amount of wholesome recreâ€" ation and amusement is looked forâ€" ward to. The game on Wednesday evening last between Mr. Viland‘s team and Mr. MceLean‘s was very closely contested, the viectorious team only winning by two pins. Wednesday evening, Dec. 7th, Me Lean‘s team won by two pins. The seores follow :â€" Viland‘s Team : TIMMINS BOWLING NOW OFf T0 A GOOD START UaAPSON ... Carmichael Patterson Roy .*... Spence ..
