Now that statement may come as somewhat of a surprise for those who have always held Cadillac in high esteem. The problem for GM is that the number of people who feel this way are becoming fewer and fewer as a new generation of consumers demands more performance, better handling and real quality and value. America‘s luxury car builders were used to playing a game where the rules were defined by electronic convenjences and suspensions softened to the point where it was hard to tell whether the car was even in motion. As a result, young urban upstarts flocked to BMW, Mercedes, Acura and Lexus. But old habits do not die easily. Proof positive is the reshaping of the de Ville for 1994. If anything, this car is a throwback in time. GM was probably listening to the seniors who were opposed to the new flock of luxury sedans from Europe and Japan and as a result were beginning to lean more towards Lincoln. The 1994 de Ville could be mistaken for a 1977 model and there are those who cherish the traits of those older cars. For GM the challenge was to find a balance where the look and feel of the car would be what a particular market segâ€" ment was searching for while blending the new technoloâ€" the new de Ville is a success.
