Raku â€" beauty in ‘nothing‘ Beauty in simple things. Raku has its origins in the Orient, where it reached spiritual connotations in the making of pots for the tea ceremony, and has derived its name from Rikyu, who was considered the founder of Japanese tea cult. Only the inside of the bowl or the top of the plate is glazed, then it is placed on a bed of hardwood coals in an outdoor kiln.
