On a warm, sunny day, there's great joy to be had playing 18 holes of golf -- and when it's part of the Mayor's Invitational United Way of Oakville Tournament, the funds raised also fuel great good for the community through programs and services that serve over 45,000 members of our community. The Mayor's Invitational United Way of Oakville Golf Tournament has become an annual tradition for local golfers since its inception 11 years ago, quickly making it Halton's premier and largest golf fundraising event. Revenue from last year's event held at Blue Springs topped $80,000, a 15% increase over the previous year, helping to raise both awareness and funds for the 36 agencies and services of the United Way. On the links, the winning team was Kennedy Ford Sales with 13 under par. Bigger and better is the forecast for this year's event, which will be held on Monday, July 19th. Moving to a new location, the prestigious RattleSnake Point in Milton, enables twice as many golfers to participate this year, and with a projected revenue increase by about 50%. The event features 36 holes with golfers playing either the Copperhead or SideWinder course, and in a 'scramble' format. Golf prizes will once again include the beautiful limited edition prints of renowned Oakville artist Alan Kingsland. Unique to this year are the auction prizes which will be situated throughout the courses. Golfers will have the opportunity to bid using cell phones provided by National Cellular. A day of golf at $275 per person includes a BBQ lunch, full day of golf, lots of opportunities to win prizes, and a fantastic dinner program featuring a sqjprise Master of Ceremonies. Also, the day is a great way to spend some time away from the office with friends, business associates, all the while helping to raise money and awareness for a terrific cause. Sponsors always play a critical role in helping to exceed UWO's fundraising goals each year. This year, UWO is pleased to have Ford Motor Company of Canada back again as the principal sponsor (Titanium) of the tournament. The Platinum Sponsors ($5,000) include PenEquity Management, Moen Inc., Mattamy Homes, and Ballantry Homes, as well, there are numerous Gold Sponsors ($2,500) and Silver Sponsors ($1,500). A limited number of corporate sponsorships including Hole Sponsors, foursomes, and individual spots are still available. Auction and raffle item donations would be most appreciated and your business would receive recognition for the donation. With a greater opportunity to increase revenue by moving to RattleSnake Point, this year's Mayor's Invitational United Way of Oakville Golf Tournament promises to be a perfect day and ideal way to support the social service programs and services funded by the United Way of Oakville. Golf game supports OTM H emergency department With the beautiful spring we have been having and the early opening of several golf courses it's time to mark on the calendars the 20th annual edition of the Royal Bank Financial Group's annual Oakville Beaver Charity Golf Tournament. Organized by the volunteers from the Royal Bank Financial Group, this year's date is Wednesday, August 11 and the location is the Wyldewood Golf and Country Club. Last year's tournament raised $43,000 which was handed over to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital to help with renovations and upgrades for its emergency department. This year, organizers have set a target of $45,000 for the hospital's emergency department. Both OTMH and the Royal Bank Group volunteers would like to extend an open invitation to this terrific day of golf. The $175 fee includes the golf, cart, dinner and prizes. A double shot-gun start will proceed at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tee-off times are given on a first come basis so send in your foursome early to reserve your spot. Hole sponsors and prize donors are always gratefully received and acknowledged. For further info, call Adrian Coote, back again as the tourney chair, at 815-8270.
