Alan Frew and Friends IV featured the talented music of several of Canada's most talented artists, including Dan Clancy of Clancy and Moore, left, and Joan Kennedy, right, at The Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts. This annual benefit concert was originally designed to raise money and awareness for charities that offer help and support to children. Proceeds from this year's concert will go to Camp Trillium and the Rose Cherry Home. Camp Trillium was established in 1984 to provide a camp environment for children with cancer and their fami­ lies. The camp allows them the opportunity to go to camp and forget about cancer for a while. The Rose Cherry Home provides pediatric hospice care and respite services to Ontario families with children who have life-limiting or life-threatening illness requiring com­ plex and technology-dependent care. See some of the best original art in Canada The Oakville Art Society's 33rd annual Art Auction will feature a wide variety of art work on Saturday (April 10th) in Cen­ tennial Gallery. "The auction is one of the highlights of the year for our society," said Marguerite Broten, president of the Oakville Art Soci­ ety (OAS). "It gives many of our more accomplished artists an opportunity to show off some of their best work and gives some of our emerging artists an opportunity to gain valuable exposure and experience." Broten also pointed out that over the course of time many prominent Canadian artists have been members of the OAS, and it has become somewhat of a tradition for them to provide one of their original works to the auction. Most notable of the alumni are Robert Bateman, Jack Reid and Tom Chatfield. "We are very careful in our selection o f (See 'Bid' on page B5) Enjoy new age music Oakville's own composer/pianist Gerry Tym- stra will play his brand of relaxing "new age music" at The Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts on April 17th at 8 p.m. Tymstra's list of credits include two CDs, the most recent of which is Garden o f Eden, which contains 11 songs written for different nations. One particular song, The Red Maple Leaf, has been chosen as the lead song of the Snowbirds Canadian Airforce Acrobatics Team. The Snowbirds performed in Toronto at the CNE the day after Princess Diana's death and dedicated the song in her memory. Tymstra will be performing at The Oakville Centre with his six-piece band of local talent which includes lead guitarist Michael Boodhan, bass guitarist Dana Cross, Jim Clayton on key­ boards, drummer Bryan Humphreys, violinist Cory Walden, and vocalist Christie Storey.
