It's Mental Health Week from May 7-13, a good time to join 10,000 other Ontarians who've signed the CMHA's on line petition urging po litical parties to fund mental health and ad dictions care like physi cal health care. With a provincial election one month away, the CMHA says it's a crucial time to de mand funding parity. "We all know some one who's been touched by mental health issues. Whether it's you, a fami ly member, friend or col league," said Radhika Subramanyan, chief ex ecutive officer, CMHA Halton Region Branch. "If you want to see a mental health system that is stronger and more responsive to those seeking help, then make your voice heard. Sign the petition and let candidates know that this issue will influence your vote." Visit erasethediffe- rence.ca and sign the pe tition. CMHA branches across Ontario are par ticipating in the Erase the Difference cam paign because they've seen first-hand how the mental health and ad dictions system is strug gling to keep up with de mand for service. Last year, Ontario de voted just 6.5 per cent ($3.5 billion) of a total $54-billion health bud get to mental health and addictions. CMHA encourages social media users to share the Erase the Dif ference campaign. To help, CMHA has created a public tool kit that contains social me dia posts and other ma terials for sharing. The public tool kit can be downloaded at erasethe- difference.ca.
