McCusker O TM H Classic aims for $50,000 T he 1999 O a k v ille -T ra fa lg a r M em o ria l H ospital (O TM H ) 5K C lassic, presented by O ak­ land Lincoln Mercury, will be held Sunday, May 30th, 9:30 a.m. Participants will have the choice of competition or fun. There is something for everyone at the 1999 OTMH Classic. Since the inaugural event in 1996, the OTMH Classic has become a wonderful community event in Oakville and also an important stop on the competitive and recreational running circuit in southern Ontario. Last year, $24,000 was raised and this year the goal is $50,000. Everyone will enjoy the scenic route, refreshments, massages, entertainment and the chance to win fabu­ lous prizes. Participants collecting donations will be eligible for special prizes. Those who pre-register by Wednesday, May 19 will receive a free T-Shirt. Besides major sponsors Oak-land Lincoln Mercury and SmithKline Beecham, numerous other corporate sponsors are on board including the Oakville Beaver. For further info, phone 338-4642. The victory captured the Klaus Zander m em orial trophy for the Oakville Soccer Club, a piece of hardware they will proudly display. G oalkeeper M ajiej Laczny, on loan from the O akville Jets Under- 15 A team , played a solid gam e in net and w as key dow n the stretch as the L ightning preserved the victory. Injuries took their to ll in the m atch as C had A boud (slight con­ cussion), S tephen H ill (tw isted ankle) and Joe H rebik (cracked nose) all w ^nt down. O akville's tw o other goals were scored by Kujo Beduh, on a pretty effort, and M ark M isiak. K ickoff is 9 p.m. Summer hockey The O akville Youth Sum m er Hockey League is ready to play. Almost 300 players have registered to play in this inaugural season from ages 5- 14. Games will take place on weeknights, Monday to Thursday in prime time at the River Oaks Community Centre. This is a non-contact league with a 14- game schedule. All registrations are individual (no team s) and team s will be balanced throughout the season. Registration remains open. For infor­ mation, call 510-1447.
