The pavilion at Bass Lake, owned by the Cobalt Kiwanis Club, and the largâ€" est building at this pleasure resort, was totally destroyed by fire one day last week. The cause of the fire is unknown but there have been suggestions that the blaze may have been due to a cigaâ€" rette butt carelessly dropped. Two mer out in a canoe on the lake at the time saw the smoke but owing to the absence of fireâ€"fighting equipment nothing could be done to save the property from destruction of fire. Although effort was made to see if the fire could not be gotten under control, there was really nothing effective that could be done. The Liberals are to hold a nominating convention at Kapuskasâ€" ing the following Wednesday, Sept. 6th. We hear names mentioned which are to ‘be submitted to both thess convenâ€" tions, but as neither the gentlemen themselves nor any of their friends have asked us to make the fact known we will abstain from possibly embarâ€" rassing them by putting the names in print this week. Both conventions will probably be lively affairs, if only from the standpoint of discussion of curâ€" rent provincial questions, and particuâ€" larly Northern administration. May they both choose capable, vigorous canâ€" didates who if elected will be qualified to properly represent this riding and do their share in giving this province good government. We have no informâ€" ation at the moment as to the possibilâ€" ity of any third candidature. It is known that members of the C.CF. in this district wish to put up a candidate, but how far that move has gone or how wide it has spread is more than we know. If they proceed with organâ€" ization until an election date is anâ€" nounced they may then feel confident enough to enter the contest. From what we gather, there is considerable sentiment favorable to the C.C.F., but a portion of this sentimert is not very openly expressed."
