Miic that housed the 10,000â€"gallon. water tank on the property caused a loss of about $2,000.00, on Thursday evening last. The building was burnâ€" ed to the ground and the water tank itself collapsed. The loss was covered by insurance. The origin of the fire is not known, the blaze starting in the lower part of the structure. The Viâ€" pond firemen were handicapped by the fact that their equipment was of little use when the source of their water supply was the scene of the fire and a bucket brigade was the only recourse. The Schumacher fire brigade gave valuâ€" able assistance in fighting the fire. The chief danger was from the possibility of other buildings catching fire, but the good work of the firefighters preventâ€" ed this. The firemen were on guard all night to avoid danger to other buildâ€" ings from flying embers. Work was commenced at once on the reâ€"building of the tank. The work at the mine was not interfered with by the fire. It is an odd coincidence that there has been only one other fire at the Vipond that being some years ago when an iceâ€" house was destroyed by fire. # SOCIAL AND WHIST DRIVE BY CORNISH CLUB TOâ€"NIGHT The whist drive and social to be given this (Thursday) evening in the Hollinger hall by the Cornish Social Club will be a very enjoyable event as are all features by this club. The assault charge against N. Fedak was similarly remanded. A week‘s remand was also given in a charge against a husband of failing to provide for his wife. A charge of seduction against a local young man was dismissed. The girl in the case, who was under eighteen years of age, admitted writing a letter that was produced in court. This letâ€" ter was obscene and disgusting and could scarcely be considered as likely to be written by any innocent young girl. Mrs. M. Fisher was charged with givâ€" ing liquor to a minor. The case was remanded for a week, the accused‘s solicitor being ill. A young fellow of 28 years of age was charged with attempted suicide.
