GALLONS OF GOOD BEER FLUSHED INTO THE SEWER (From The Sudbury Star) Tuesday afternoon spent in the conâ€" fines of the local police station would have caused many a thirsty soul to weep bitter tears of dismay. To the accompaniment of moans and groans, 480 pints and 96 quarts of the finest products of Canadian brewers forund their way through the sewer of the jail to Kelly Lake. The beer, which had been seized in many of the recent raids carried out by the local police during the past few weeks, was dispensed to the fish under the direction of the Liâ€" quor Control Board and many a reâ€" sident would gladly have exchanged places with the finned occupants of the waters for the cccasion. NOT ENOUGH MEMBERS FOR THIS PART OF THE NORTH In an editorial article last week The North Bay Nugget says that Nipissing district should have two members in the Dominion House instead of one. If this is true aAbout Nipissing it is equally true about North Temiskaminzs. The size and population of this riding suggest that there should be two memâ€" bers here instead of one. What The Nugget says about Nipissing may ue used in connection with the case for two ridings in place of the one now for North â€" Temiskaming. The Nugge: says: ‘"Nipissing District has approximateâ€" ly 30,765 voters entitled to cast their ballots on Monday next, being one of the most populous constituencies in Ontario. Port Arthur constituency has 14,300 voters, and Fort William has 14,422, the two together not equalling the voting strength of Nipissing. "Some time ago, about the time of the Liberal nomination meeting at Sturgeon Falls, it was suggested that in the near future the constituency would be divided and that when tune next Federal election was neld, Nip:sâ€" sing would have two members. "On a basis of voting population this would seem to be a necessity. There are probably very few constituencies in Ontario where so many prople are qualiï¬ed to vote in this election as in the District of Nipissing. Geographiâ€" cally, it is also one of the largest in Ontario, and a division would give the North more representation in the House. ® "When such a division takes place there will probably be a West and an East riding, with Sudbury the centre of the former and North Bay the cenâ€" tre of the latter. "Some changes will also take place in more northern constituencies between now and the next election, providing the election is at least several years away. The Dominion census will have been completed, and a basis of repreâ€" sentation will have been determined." The contract for the building has been let and the work is to be completed in time for the hockey and curling season. It is said the rink will mean an expenâ€" diture of about $50,000.00. 1t will have a frontage of about 140 fset, with length of about 220 fest. The hockey ice will be 90 by 190 feet. There will be two sheets of ice for curling under the same roof. It is expected tna: curling will be as popular a sport in Kapussasing as it is in Timmins. The building is being erected by the Spruce Falls Power Paver Co., of Kapusâ€" kasing, who are apparently missing no chances to have everything for the Kaprmiskasing people. The rink is deâ€" signed to accommodate large groups of spectators and it is believed that the new building will boost hockey and curling not only in Kapuskasing but zlso in Hearst and Cochrane.
