Inâ€" deed, apart from TIroquois Falls, it had no rival here in this respect, the other towns being too busy or too concerned with other matters to give much time to town planning ideas, or hbeautifying the community generally. Since the fire of last October, howâ€" ever, Haileybury has been forced into the class of unsightly towns. This has naturally been one of the griets of the people of Haileybury who alâ€" ways took a great interest in the fine appearance of _ their community. Others who knew Haileybury chave also missed its attractive oldâ€"time apâ€" pearance.. Both Haileyburians and others in the North Land who have taken pride in the appearance of Hdile\burv, the County Town,, will 3e pleased to know that the citizens of Haileybury are not forgetting their oldâ€"time good ideas about having A oleasant appearing town. In the last issue of The Haileyburian the followâ€" ing paragraph appeared :â€"‘‘ Although Haileybury as a town is rapidly ‘*coming back,‘ ana presents a brave and prosperous appearance as comâ€" pared with theâ€"weeks immediately following the great fire last fall, the hand of time alone can restore much of the natural beauty of her surroundâ€" ings. For instance, the continuation of the Lake Shore Road to Mill Creek, which for years past has bheen a favorâ€" ite walk on Sundays and holidays, shows all too plainly the ravages 0t the fire fiend and has lost the greater part of its oldâ€"time attractiveness. The healing touch of Nature is alâ€" ready in evidence, and a part of the devastation has taken on a new coai of green, but it will ‘be years ‘before this picturesque bit of roadway will again present to the seeker of natural beauty the same charm that it did in vears gone by.‘ COURT OF REVISION ON ASSESSMENT ROLL, JULY 3 The Court of Revision on the Asâ€" sessment Rolil for the Town of Timâ€" mins for this year will be held in the Council Chamber on Tuesday, July 3rd, commencing at 10 a.m., for the purpose of hearing any â€" appeals azainst the assessment this year. Haileybury‘s ~assessment roll this year shows 332 children between 3 and 16 ‘years attending the Public School and 190 at the. Separate School, a total of 322. TIMMINS GOT REVENGE LAST THURSDAY, 12 TO 6 The following is The Broke Husâ€" tler‘s brief report of the district baseâ€" ball last Thursday at Timmins:â€" Timmins secured sweet revenge for the two defeats handed them by the local ball tossers when they adminisâ€" tered a 12 to 6 lambasting to the FaWs last Thursday at Timming. Falls last Thursday at Timmins. Poor pitching, faiiure to hit in pinches and terrible fielding were reasons for the town boys def The grounds at Timmins were in fuUl shape, the infield ‘being an deep with sand, but even this is alibi enough for eight errors. O: at short was the worst offender â€" Lour marked up against Un Bill Brydge and Fritz Anson acâ€" counted for a brace apiece. Timmins also ran wild on the bags, pilfering nul| less than five bases from Morrison, who suffered from a bad finger nail and a temporary slightly glazed arm. Coombs played a nice game at first, picking several bad throws out of the dirt. Fritz also knocked down a couple of hard drives at the hot corner but was playing in hard luck. Brydge‘s errors . were also of the tough break variety, caused ‘by over anxiety to make a dowble play. McLean, shortstop for the Timmins team appears to be the most finished ball player in the North country. Outside of making five putouts, havyâ€" ing five assists with only one misplay and getting three hits, all of which re turned into runs, he did not do anyâ€" thine alll afternoon. thing alll afternoon. Spence, the pride of Timmins, was touched up freely by the locals but was saved ‘by the first elass support of his teammates. The errors made by Timmins, did not come when hits meant runs, as in the case of the Falls, Flanders, started off well, but was a trifle wild and after a few errors had ‘been mixed with half a dozen hits he was taken out by the ‘*Chief"" and Derosiers sent in. Derosiers alâ€" lowed only four hits for the remainâ€" ing five innings but was also the vieâ€" tim of many errors. Iroquois Falls A.B. R. (ironard, s.8s. ... Derosier, c.f., p. .3 Chircoski., L.f. ...4 ip C hJ |â€" Word reaching here last week was to the effect that there were bad hush fires in the Rouyn Gold Camp area, or rather around the Camp, the Camp itself having escaped. The township where the most of the claims staked are located has been free from bush fires but the fires form a regular ring around the area. As a consequence of the threatening appearance of the fires men at work in the area last week withdrew to the lake where they would be safe in cease the township caught fire from the neighboring secâ€" tions where the ‘bush is burning. Rouyn has not been getting much rain recently and last week was passed by altogether by the storm that dampenâ€" ed down the bush fires in other parts of the North Land.
