GCKE § Timmins Real \Estate HAILEYBURY TO HAVE HUGE CHRISTMAS TREE THIS YEAR Haileybury is going to have a good Christmas despite the fire fiend‘s work in October. For the first time in twenty years (and twenty years is a long time in the North Land) Haileyâ€" bury Roman Catholics will be unable to have Midnight Mass in théir own church building on ‘Christmas Eve. The members of the other denominaâ€" tions will also be without churches for the usual Christmas services. It is the intention of most, however, to atâ€" tend churches in neighbouring towns as Hailevybury intends to have a real Christmas. Religious services are also planned for: many of the private homes for this Christmas in Haleyâ€" bury. And, of course, the children are not being forgotten this Christmas. Already there are committees at work and the plan is to have a big Christâ€" mas Tree with presents for about 700 children. In Cobalt, Liskeard and other towns of the North Land special trees are being planned for the childâ€" ren of the fire sufferers, As mentionâ€" ed recently in The Advance, Timmins Chapter of the Daughters of the Emâ€" pire will have a special Christmas Tree in the 1.0.0.F. Hall on Saturday evening, Dec. 23rd. for the children of the fire sufferers and others that migcht otherwise miss a Merry Christâ€" ©%%0 §$400008000800000000080080000000000000008080000 e mas. a Ao t Pr in din NAE MA nds NPnd onl 6 " h3 w N oA W L 9 Smww ?, EN IERETITRIITNTNIEILIEILAILAE!: H. B. Wills (Co. Market Despatch there is the following paragraph of special interâ€" ‘‘The auxiliary plant at Newray is now running under steam and a large supply of mining paraphernalia neâ€" cessary to carry on underground deâ€" velopment is arriving daily. Dewaterâ€" ing operations are expected to begin any day now, to be followed by a big program of mine work which will prove or disprove the belief that this property, consisting of 320 acres, is a gold mine of large proportions. Our information is that diamond drilling has proved large bodies of ore to exâ€" ist below the 400â€"foot level, while at the point where underground work stopped a few years ago an orebody of importance is reported as awaiting the drillers‘ coming. ‘The location of this property, lying directly northeast of Melntyreâ€"Poreupine, sand ‘believed to be directly in line of the proved mineralized zone which traverses the Poreupine Camp, is considered highly favourable, and the fact of the Coniaâ€" gas engineering corps being pleased with results thus far met with, would appear to favour Newray‘s chancees of making good."" Mr. Wm. J. Marsden, of Toronto, was a visitor to Timmins last week. But your best plan is just to come and see for yourself Timmins, Oart. DISTRICT HEOUSE OF REFUGE SHOULD BE AT HKAILEYBURY At g recent meeting of the Liskeard Board of Trade Mayor Taylor of that town was asked to prepare a report on the matter of a House of Refuge for the District., **setting forth necessary the matter of a House of Refuge for the District, ‘*setting forth necessary detail to get matter properly under way.‘* The need for an institution of this kind somewhere in the District of Temiskaming has been apparent for some years and there is no question but that something should be done abont it. The Associated Boards of Trade would do well to take the quesâ€" tion in active consideration, with speâ€" cial thought at the same time for the new town of Haileybury. Although a House of Refuge may not be much of an acquisition to a town, its building at aHileybury would help that town in getting a fresh start, and everything possible should be done by all to give the gallant town of Haileybury a helpâ€" along in every way in its new start. Two young men passed through North Bay and Sudbury last week on their way from Amherst, NS., to Vancouver, a distance of 5100 miles, which they are supposed to walk: trundling a barrel each to win a wager said to be of large amount. There were three in the pariy rushing the barrels when Amherst was first left but one took sick with appendiciâ€" tis at Newmarket, Ontario, and had to go infto the hospital and out of the wager. The young fellows left Amâ€" herst on Aug. 15th. and to win the wager must reach Vancouver before March 3l1st.. 1922. So far they ‘have made over 2600 miles, but the worst is yet to come. As far as Toronto they averaged about 30 miles a day. Their best day was on an Ontario highway when they made 53 miles in a thirteen hour stretch. Their worst progress was made near North Bay when it took twelve hours to make six miles. The boys are selling picture cards on their trip as well as trundling the barâ€" rels. It all sounds funny, and it looks interesting, but the whole affair seems to be a useless and pitiful waste of time and strength. Wagers should be made in terms of splitting wood for widow women, shovelling snow for sick folks, and other helpful things like these. However, a Merry Christâ€" mas, even to those who foolishly rush the barrel! THIS HERE Ig AN ODD GAME â€"RUSHING THE BARREL Necklaces in great variety. Silverware in sets and beautiful single pieces. Watches to suit every taste and every purse. Clocks that will add to the Christmas charm of any home. ' CHRISTMAS GIFT SUGGESTIONS
