Mrs. Thomas, a wellâ€"known‘business woman of the district, has announced her intention of being a candidate for the reeveship of the Township of Tisâ€" dale at the coming municipal election. It is understood also that she will supâ€" port an independent ‘‘slate‘‘ for elecâ€" tion as councillors. Mrs. Thomas says that her idea is to secure for the Town ship of Tisdale a straight, free, indeâ€" pendent business municipal governâ€" ment that will not have connection with any party or section. Mrs. Thomas conducted the King George Hotel at South Poreupine and also for a time was in charge of the Hotel Iroâ€" quois at Iroquois Falls. In the conâ€" duct‘ of these hotels and in other public or semiâ€"public matters she has South Porcupine Woman Announces Her Intention to be in the Municipal Field. MR3 THOMAS CANDIDATE FOR TISDALE REFVESHIP gained the reputation of being an unâ€" usually capable and efficient business woman. Her contest for the Reeveâ€" ship, though perhaps not commanding with much interest. During the past few years the municipal government of the Township of Tisdale has at least been respected outside the Townâ€" ship, though perhops not commanding as much attention in the world at larze as the earlier municipal bodies. In the Township itself there are, of course, the usual praises and curses for the Township fathers. No muniâ€" cipal body can hope to escape criticâ€" ism. Mrs. Thomas takes the stand that the Council has not given the sup port it should to the local institutions (the hotel, for example) that were striving to render special service unâ€" der difficulties of many kinds. The preseat ‘Council will no doubt have full reply to such a contention, and the contest this election should be a lively one, though that will not be unâ€" usual for Tisdale where there have been a number of very lively elections. The North Land is right upâ€"toâ€"date and in line with all modern methods, so a woman candidate for municipal office will have a fair chanee on merit. If Mrs. Thomas were to be successful she would have the honour of being the first woman head of a North Land municipality. The North Land, howâ€" ever, has many women taking an acâ€" tive part in business and professional life in several lines.. There are many women conducting stores, restaurants andâ€" other businesses. Mrs. Thomas hlas been the manager of the King and the Iroquois Falls hotel, as noted before. She was also one of the delegates from South Poreupine to the annual meeting of the Associatâ€" ed Boards of Trade of Temiskaming held in Timmins some weeks ago, and she took an active and helpful part in the proceedings. Haileybury has a woman insurance agent conducting a good .business in the line. Timmins has a lady barber regularly working at the trade. Other towns in the North Land have women occupying prominent and important positions. Whether the Township of Tisdale will have a woman Reeve for 1921 remains to be seen. In the meantime the fact that it is known locally that Mrs. Thomas intends to be a candidate has not prevented the mention of, many names of those prominently connectâ€" ed with municipal matters in the past. From present indications there will be a number of nominations for the reeveship and several will likely stand and contest the election. INJUNCTION AGAINST WASAPIKA DISMISSED Some days ago Hamilton B. Wills Co. applied for and secured a temâ€" porary injunction on behalf of themâ€" selves and other shareholders, restrain ing the Wasapika Gold Mines from distributing the assets of the Comâ€" pany in the manner planned by the directors. ‘Last week argument was heard on the injunction and further restraint was not considered encessary The idea of the Hamilton B. Wills Co. in asking for the injunction was to protect the shareholders of the Wasaâ€" pika in every way, and this has largeâ€" ly been accomplished through the puâ€" blicity given the court proceedings. The brokerage firm were not objecting so much to the distribution as to the method of making it. Hamilton B. Wills .
