Hope was in the air as dignitary after digni tary took to the microphone to extol the benefits of the holistic treatment and support facility, scheduled to open next summer thanks to the passionate vision, committment and generosity of many, including Mattamy Homes Limited, The Metrontario Group as well as the Town of Oakville. On a parklike setting overlooking a tranquil man-made lake on Glenashton Drive, speakers led by Mayor Ann Mulvale, took gleaming shovels in hand, and as they 'dug' the ceremoni al first hole, a fountain of water rose into the sky, symbolizing the hope that Wellspring will offer to citizens here and in surrounding communities. Wellspring's executive director Lynda Morrison called yesterday's ceremony "a won derful wonderful event", the result of faith, committment and exceptional generosity" She thanked Mulvale for her vision and lead ership, a woman who championed the cause for this non-profit, charitable satellite centre to be built on Oakville soil. (Wellspring Halton Peel will be associated with Halton Peel's designated cancer treatment centre - Credit Valley Hospital.) Mulvale asked the gathered group of digni taries, huddled under a canopy beside a vacant field, itself in the midst of the ongoing Oak Park construction, to visualize next spring, "a larger lake, land more defined and the landscape more developed." "I am a cancer survivor," said Mulvale. "I know the journey. I know the journey is doable. We need to celebrate those who survive the jour ney and can continue to give the gift of hope." Because there is hope, Mulvale said she looks forward to the day when "the Town can take back this building." Held internationally since the 1970s, this walk is designed to symbolize a woman's right to walk at night without fear of violence or harassment Take Back the Night provides a venue for members of the community to gather and publicly voice their outrage at the exis tence of violence in our society. People of all ages and genders are wel come to bring signs and placards and par ticipate in this anti-violence program which includes speakers, music and song, and community information displays. Candles, T-shirts, buttons and refreshments will be available for a small donation. Any donations of non-perishable food items for the food bank would be appreci ated. Ontario Attorney General at Canadian Club tonight Ontario Attorney General Jim Flaherty is the guest speaker at the Canadian Club of Oakville dinner meeting tonight. Flaherty, the MPP for Whitby-Ajax, will discuss some of the key justice issues in Ontario, including the Young Offenders' Act. The Canadian Club dinner meeting is at the Ramada Inn Oakville.
