The m eeting will be held Monday, Oct. 25th at the Burlington Public Library (Centennial Hall), located at 2331 New St., from 2 to 5 p.m. Front and centre for Oakville residents, especially those with loved ones currently residing in the 34-bed Oakville-Trafalgar M emorial Hospital (OTM H)/Extendicare nursing home, will be the bid by Halton Healthcare Services (HHS) and Extendicare to use the abandoned Oakville Trafalgar High School (OTHS) site for a 150-bed long term care facility. (HHS includes OTMH and M ilton District Hospital.) Family members are deeply worried that permanent long-term care beds will not be up and run ning in Oakville before Extendicare's lease to use OTM H's fifth floor expires next year. Prior to the Oct. 25th public meeting, interested parties can call the following number and receive a full information package regarding the various long-term care propos als now before the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care: 416327-7755. Comments can also be faxed to (See `Preferred' page 4) F ire M arshal p ro b in g B o t blaze Damage could hit $250,000 as woodworking shop destroyed I nvestigators from the O ntario Fire M arshal's Office are continuing to probe the cause o f Tuesday m orning's fire at BOT Construction on Speers Road. A ccording to D eputy Fire C hief John deH ooge, crew s w ere sum m oned around 3 a.m. O nce on site they found that a w ood w orking shop was fully involved and flam es shooting through the roof. W ith that b u ild in g engulfed, an aerial truck and other units were used to contain the fire and pre vent it from spreading to adjacent structures. "The crew s did a great jo b o f protecting the units on e ith er sid e ," said deHooge. The shop, w hich con tained lum ber and a vari ety o f eq u ip m en t, w as used to build form s em ployed in the construction process. Total dam age was betw een $ 150,000 and $200,000. D ue to the extensive dam age to the building, its stru ctu ral in teg rity was com prom ised. As a result, p o rtio n s had to be rem oved or secured before investigators could enter. Photo by Barrie Erskine BLACK & W HITE BALL: A tasting was held recently at Carmen's Catering at the Oakville Holiday Inn to taste test the food and wine to be served at the Black & White Ball to be held on Oct. 29th at the Holiday Inn to raise funds for the Bronte Butterfly Project. Tasting the wine and food to be served that night are: (1 to r) Lee Bernard, chair o f Bronte Butterfly Project; Judy Yurchuk, promotions and events chair of the Bronte Butterfly Project; and Kathy Erb, quality control liaison for Carmen's.
