Survivors of sexual assault can give their input on newwebsite by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff 9 | Thursday November 2, 2017 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insidehalton.com For m ore news, visit insidehaltDn.com The Halton Regional Police Services Board is preparing to launch its own website. The seven-member civilian board, which provides the strategic governance of the Halton police, currently has a presence on the Halton police website, but has now decided to branch out on its own. Julie Moscato, the board' s executive director, said the group wants its own website to make information about the group more accessible and to have its own presence in the community. "The idea really is to engage with the community and let them know about who we are, what w e do and to let them come to us with any questions they have about us and the business that we do," she said. Once the website is operational, residents will be able to visit to find information about the individual board members, the board' s duties as well as agendas for coming board meetings and information on its bylaws. Residents who wish to file a complaint against the police or the board will also be able to do so through this website. In addition, Moscato says, there will be information about the sexual assault review currently being led by the police board. "The Halton Police Services Board decided to do its own review relating to the Halton police services' handling of sexual assault cases," she said. "There is information on the website about that and there is an opportunity for survivors of sexual assault to provide input to the board about their experience. If they' ve ever reported to Halton police, they can say what their experience was with the police, and if they chose not to -- why they chose not to." The public can expect to see the website online within the next month.
