"Our concern for (tenants) is that their voice won't be heard," said Care Watch spokesperson Janette Ledwith, who scheduled the meeting at the Central Library on Navy Street from 7 to 9 p.m. In a release issued M onday, Care W atch states: "Residents declare that problems are long standing, are approaching crisis proportions and cannot be solved from within. They believe that public awareness will prompt action and bring about much needed change. Care Watch Halton believes that the residents are entitled to the best quality of care and a home they can live in safety and peace of mind." The board will be interviewing 30 candidates for the posi tions during the next few days. There were 21 applicants from Burlington, seven from Oakville, five from Halton Hills and two from M ilton. Applicants will be interviewed over three evenings tonight (Wednesday), tomorrow and Monday, starting at 7 p.m. Candidates will have 10 minutes to indicate what strengths they can bring to the interim trustee position. They'll also be asked about what challenges they see facing the board. "We are very pleased at the interest in the two interim trustee positions with the Halton District School Board," said chair Ethel Gardiner. "It is gratifying to know that serving the interests o f our students and encouraging the excellence of our public education system is a priority for Halton residents." Following interviews, the interim trustees will be selected by other board members. The new trustees will be appointed and sworn in at the board's meeting on Sept. 20th. Vacancies to be filled are trustee positions in the eastern half o f Burlington (Wards 4 ,5 and 6) and in northeast Oakville (Wards 5 and 6). These positions were previously held by David Bird (Burlington) and Debbie M arklew (Oakville). These trustees had to resign because they moved from Halton. Provincial regulations require the positions be filled even though there will be an election for a new board on Nov. 13th. It's estimated the interim trustees will sit at three to four meet ings before the board's term ends. Although the interim trustees will represent specific areas, applications were accepted from across Halton. Applicants were required to be Canadian citizens, over age 18 and public school supporters. Tiger' s golf glove to aid brain tumour research Auction of winning glove to raise funds for Brainchild By Wilma Blokhuis OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Anne Arcand wanted Tiger Woods' autograph, but got his glove instead. "Everybody said `no way, there's no way you're going to get Tiger's autograph.' It's true, I didn't get his autograph, but I got something better," said Arcand. Having positioned herself where the golfers come off the green at Glen Abbey, Arcand stopped 15 golfers on Sunday, collecting autographs on a pair of gloves she brought to the tournament. Although she's a golf fan, Arcand wasn't collecting these signatures for herself. She was helping her friend and colleague Kathy Douthart collect memorabilia to be auctioned at the third annual Rigatoni for Research Dinner for Brainchild at the Le Dome Banquet Hall on Sept. 27th. Both women teach at St. John's School, and Arcand is one of hundreds who have rallied around Douthart in her quest to raise dollars for brain tumour disease research through Brainchild. Douthart lost her seven-year-old son Christopher to brain tumour disease three years ago. The last signature Arcand collected was that of Grant Waite, whom Woods defeated by one stroke to win the Open.
