It w asn't an easy decision because M om has always been so independent and we d id n 't w ant to quell th a t w onderful spirit of hers. But even she agreed that she needed more help than we could give her. Thank goodness fo r the caring people at Erin Mills Lodge. M om loves her active new lifestyle and she's as happy and independent as ever. Daughter o f Mrs. Robertson, Resident since 1991 W illiam Hodge, above, who will be the final artist featured at the M cLaren-Barnes Gallery in an exhibition titled Danza, A Cele bration from Sept. 16th to OcL 7th, assembled a group of artists to decorate the M cLaren-Barnes Gallery before it is demolished at the end of the month. Matthew M cNiven, right, was oine of that group, each of whom also signed their names to the north wall of the gallery. W alker BallantyneHill, below, sprinkled gold dust on a star that was painted on the front steps o f the gallery. A A *. A W AAj, o f L C f c . Armed with cans o f spray paint, brushes, paint and sparkles, these artists decorated the outside of the gallery and signed their names to a gallery that will cele brate 10 years in Oakville by being razed for a parking lot. According to owner Helen Barnes, the Town of Oakville was gracious enough to allow the gallery to stay open longer than planned so that M cLaren-Barnes could partici pate in the Oakville Festival for Fibre Arts, which opens on Saturday (Sept. 16th) at various locations across town. The final exhibition in the gallery at 133 Reynolds St. will feature the work of textile artist William Hodge in Danza, A Celebration from Sept. 16th to Oct. 7th, with the opening on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. The gallery will also display work from each o f the fibre artists featured in Weaving N ew Rhythms: Diary 2001 , a 152-page, hard-cov ered day-book with 21 full colour illustrations of textile art, accompanied by related poems. This day-book, which is priced at $25.95, will be launched at McLaren-Barnes on Sunday, Sept. 17th from 1 to 4 p.m. The fibre art from the book will remain in the gallery until Sept. 30th. Copies of the book will be available at the gallery until the conclusion o f the exhibition. They will also be available at various other Festival for Fibre Arts sites, as well as through the Oakville Arts Council on the ground floor of Central Library, 815-5977. The Oakville Festival for Fibre Arts is hosted by the Oakville Arts Council from Sept. 16th to Oct. 16th and offers exhibitions, workshops and lectures to explore both traditional textiles and contemporary fibre arts.
