Wednesday, August 9, 2000 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER C3 Annual Halton Valley Sum m er Classic runs today through Sunday at Hendervale Hendervale Equestrian Complex is holding the third of a series of three major classics this week. The annual Halton Valley Summer Classic, which is also a world cup qualifier, will be held at the Burlington facility (which also straddles Milton and Oakville) today through Sunday (Aug. 9 -13th). More than 600 participants are expected to compete in 125 class competitions throughout the fiveday event, culminating in the world cup qualifier Sunday, 2 p.m. There is much to do at Hendervale -- watch the competitions, tour the immaculate grounds, visit with the horses and riders and enjoy the refreshment tents and picnic areas. Palermo secures fourth and final berth to eastern Canadians The Palermo Athletics put themselves behind the eight-ball in the Ontario Amateur Softball Association's men's intermediate eliminations this past weekend in Stittsville. But after losing their opening game in the double-elimination tournament, they proceed ed to sink five wins before finally tasting defeat again. But they had accomplished their task. They had finished fourth out of 21 teams, thus secur ing the final berth into the Eastern Canadian Championships in September in the Maritimes. The team, which plays out of Palermo which is a small hamlet in the north end of Oakville, was able to draw upon its experience, having finished fourth in their division last year at the North American Fastball Association World Series (and thus automati cally qualifying to compete there, again this year).
