John Ferdoruk, father of Adam, pre sented the trophy in memory of his son to Duke Dickson, manager/coach of the Majors. Along with a victory in the season opening Ancaster Heritage Days Tournament, the Major all-stars have won all three tournaments they have entered this year. In fact, the only team they've lost to this season, High Park, is currently in Williamsport, PA., representing Canada in the Little League World Series. Oakville lost to them twice in the District 1 championships, losing 3-2 and 3-0, to finish in second place. They are the only blemishes on Oakville's 2000 tally which now stands at 24-2. Ironically, it was the High Park minors (U-12 all-stars) that Oakville defeated in the tournament champi onship, 6-0. It was a close game until Oakville blew it open with four runs in the bot tom of the fifth inning. In semifinal action, Oakville defeat ed Stoney Creek 9-1. In the preliminary round, Oakville Majors defeated Kanata 9-1 (in a rematch of the Scott Tokessy Memorial Tournament final), Michigan 8-5 and Erindale 7-3. Congratulations to the team: PLAYERS ... They opened against a good minor team from Ypsylanti, Michigan, and despite some excellent pitching perfor mances by Scott DeGroot (8Ks) and Matt Downer (2Ks) were edged 2-0. Oakville then lost a heartbreaker as Ancaster scored two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to erase a 3-0 deficit and win 4-3. Scoring Oakville's runs were Chris Stewart, Patch Channing and Alden Black. Good hit ting by Roger Lambert and Ryan Mallough. Needing a win to qualify for the consolations, Oakville built Up a 4-0 lead and held on to a 5-1 verdict. DeGroote singled home Lambert and A.J. O'Brodovich to make it 2-0. A single by Adam Davidson, a bunt single by Ryan Malhotra followed by a tworun single by Daniel Keresteci made it 4-0. Oakville's fifth run was scored by Channing on a Mallough fielder's choice. In the consolation semifinal, Oakville took it on the chin 12-0 to a Dundas major team still smarting from a loss to minor team. Stewart's out standing catch in centre field was the Oakville highlight.
