Lockwood Chrysler expands B y K ym Funnell Automotive Dealership Profile Two years after they purchased the property next door and doubled their size, J. Lockwood Chrysler Ltd. is once again undergoing major ren ovations and further expansion. Owner Jay Lockwood com m ents, " Keeping up with Oakville's consistent growth has been an ongoing effort on our behalf. Our current plan to renovate is simply our latest step in meeting the demand." The renovations that will begin on August 15 will see the current 10 service bays expand to 22, to accommodate the growing customer base. They have found themselves short of space, and are expanding from 12,000 sq. ft. to 32,000 sq. ft. to better serve their customers. They will also be adding a service drive through and expanding their service reception area, as well as adding a full clean and detail department. The showroom will also be doubling in size with an indoor used vehicle display area. Jay accredits the success o f his deal ership to the marketing strategy and his professional and knowledgeable staff. "Oakville is a small community," he comments, "and we try to maintain our presence within the community. We depend on our customers and go out of our way to make sales and service at Lockwood a convenient and pleasant experience for them." Hence the reno vations for more efficient service. This strategy has not gone unno ticed, as Lockwood Chrysler has won several Chrysler recognition awards of excellence for service, parts, and sales. Just recently, they earned Five Star Certification, the highest recognition that DaimlerChrysler awards its dealer ships for excellence in customer ser vice. Lockwood Chrysler received this honour by successfully adhering to a strict set o f training, facility and process requirements designed to max imize customer satisfaction. Five Star Certification also requires the dealership to contact customers after doing business with them, to make sure each customer is completely satis fied. This follow-up process ensures that the dealership continuously evalu ates and improves the way it does busi ness. "Superior satisfaction is just part of the process," said Larry Latta, Vice President, Sales and Service. "Five Star dealerships have dedicated themselves to perpetuating the Five Star ideals of ongoing development and improve ment." Dealerships displaying the Five Star sign are recognized as the most desirable places to buy or service a Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep® vehicle. "We are constantly reviewing our goals and focus to make sure they remain customer oriented," says Jay. One example of this convenience is the service hours, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Also, a shuttle bus service is available at all times during these hours. With a mandate to maintain a pres ence within the community, Jay is known not only for his philanthropy as the owner of the successful Chrysler dealership, but also as an individual. Jay established the dealership about 17 years ago, around the same time he became a Rotarian. "I believe in giving back to the com munity where I make my living," he says. A long time resident of Oakville, Jay chose the Rotary Club as his chari ty of choice because many members of his family are Rotarians, albeit in other districts. His pride o f the Rotary C lub's accomplishments is evident when he is coaxed to talk about them, but he is not one to boast about his community ser vice. People know about his communi ty work because they see him, not because he talks about it.
