"W hich would you drink?" Paul Danylewich asked a room ful o f female Appleby College students, but there was no way o f telling which one was "safe." An evil phenomenon of the 1990s, date rape drugs has increasingly been used as a way of sedating victims prior to sexual assault. A wide variety o f substances are used, but Danylewich discussed the two most well known ones. Danylewich is the director o f W hite Tiger Street Defense and author of the soon-to-bereleased manual - The Complete Personal Safety Guide for Women. With degrees in edu cation and sociology, he makes his living edu cating young women in schools on personal safety issues. His program consists of teaching se' rf-defense techniques and discussing the dangers of date rape drugs, sexual assault and abusive relationships. He brought his program to Oakville for the first time last week, as part of the Appleby's Residential Life program. Danylewich began by discussing Rohypnol or roofies, an innocent looking little white pill that resembles an aspirin. "Rohypnol is tasteless, odourless and colourless," he announced. "But once it kicks warned. But it may take some time for the changes to actual ly be made since the firm must first seek regu latory approvals in the 60 countries where it's sold. Then, there's GHB or Gamma Hydroxybutyrate, a central nervous system depressant used in-the past as a substitute for steroids or to treat sleep disorders. Its texture varies from milky to lumpy.
