And th at's the South Regional T rack and Field Championships which are under way today (Wednesday) and tomorrow at M cM aster University in Hamilton. The OFSAA provincial track and field championships are slated for June 1-3 in Windsor. Meanwhile, we bring to you the complete results of the combined Halton-G-HAC track and field meet from last week. (Basically, the combined meet includes all the Halton high schools, plus the Hamilton separate schools). Oakville athletes had their share o f glory (and all Oakville athletes are boldfaced, here). The contenders were to be deter mined by yesterday's semifinal games. In senior men's, yesterday's semifi nals had St. Thomas Aquinas hosting Nelson; M.M. Robinson hosting Assumption. In senior w om en's, yesterday's semifinals had St. Thomas Aquinas hosting Notre Dame and M.M. Robinson hosting Oakville Trafalgar. The junior soccer championships are on tap tomorrow (Thursday) at Sherwood. The junior semifinals were also held yesterday. In junior men's, Aquinas (who beat Iroquois Ridge 1-0 last Friday) hosted M.M. Robinson; Bishop Reding hosted Burlington Central. Photo by Ron Kuzyk 1 *i 1 i M M World Cup veteran leads R ed Devils into Friday Halton cham pionship By Scott MacArthur SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER With the Halton senior boys rugby cham pi onship game set for Friday at Crusaders' Park (at 3:30 p.m.), Oakville Trafalgar High School will head into the game the favourite to defeat Notre Dame as it goes for its 30th consecutive title. O TH S's chances for victory are bolstered by their leader, Patrick Dessaulles, who brings a wealth o f recent rugby experience into every game. Dessaulles, currently in his final semester at OTHS, earned a spot on the Canadian National U-19 rugby team that competed in the 2000 Fresh from the world junior cup, Patrick Dessaulles will try and help Oakville Trafalgar Red Devils to their 30th straight Halton title. He went to Victoria for a week over the Christmas holi days, to Wales in February for a week of train ing before travelling to England in April for another week o f practice preceding the tourna ment in France. The team struggled from the get-go, losing to Wales 60-0 in an exhibition game in February. They didn't fair any better in the world champi onships, losing all four games they played. The experience, however, is something Dessaulles will never forget. "It was an incredible experience for me to get to be a part of that," said the versatile play er, who spends most o f his time at prop and occasionally sees time at flanker.
