She was bom on May 18, 1900. She is the mother of the late Marie McDonald. Her family, including son-in-law Malcolm McDonald, grandson John and wife Holly, granddaughter Bonnie Aalbers, great grandchildren Lisa Michelle and Sandi, attended, along with friends Joy and Dennis Dunn, Vera Peterson, Olie and Bonnie Nielson, and Chris and Bill Cook. She received greetings from HRH Queen Elizabeth, Prime Minister Jean Chretien, MP Bonnie Brown, and Lieut. Gov. Adrienne Clarkson. Rotaiy dinner raises $125,000 for PolioPlus PolioPlus, a Rotary International campaign to eradicate polio by the year 2005, received a $125,000 boost from the Southern Ontario Fellowship Dinner hosted by Oakville's four Rotary Clubs at Otello's Banquet Hall in March. Funds raised by Rotarians and individuals, and from grants, were matched by CIDA - the Canadian International Development Agency. The dinner was attended by 200 Rotarians, who met Frank Devlyn, president elect of Rotary International. Devlyn, who hails from M exico, spoke about the work and goals of PolioPlus. Devlyn, president of an optical products manufactur ing, distributing and retailing company, is a national board member of the Mexican Red Cross and Goodwill Industries, and treasurer of the Mexican Tuberculosis Association, and has also served on the boards of the YMCA of Mexico City, and the National Pro Blind Association. Devlyn joined the Rotary Club of Mexico City in 1970, and joined Rotary International in 1986 as a director. Prior to his Oakville speaking engagement, Devlyn was in New York City, presenting Rotary International's Polio Eradication Champion Award to American media magnet Ted Turner and United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, in recognition o f the US$28 million Turner donated to PolioPlus through his United Nations Foundation. The World Health Organization estimates that US$1 billion is needed from donors for the period 19992005 to eradicate polio. In 1985, Rotary International launched PolioPlus, a 20-year com mitment to eradicate polio. PolioPlus is one of the most ambitious hum anitarian undertakings ever launched by a private entity. It will serve as a paradigm for pri vate-public collaborations in the fight against disease well into the 21st century.
