"I dreamt about winning winning the night before the race," said a jubilant Christopher Kuijpers, one of the four boys on the team. For one of the smallest schools in the Kawartha Pineridge school district, second place is quite an accomplishment. There were close to 500 top runners in the region running last Thursday on the rough 1.5km trail. The team consisted of Jeremy Moore (who came in 5th), Christopher Kuijpers (7th), Theo DeVries and Andrew Coldin (who both ran well put didn't place in the top ten). Courtice and Cobourg schools seemed to gather most of the prizes but Newcastle had a couple of placers: Taryn Nicholson of Newcastle came in 4tii in the Grade 6 girls competition, and Jarod Hollister, also of Newcastle, came in 6th in the grade 4 boys rac,e. In the grade 7 and 8 competition, Piet Kuypers of MJ Hobbs took 1st place, for the grade 7 boys. The senior teams ran twice as far as the juniors, jumping over rocks and going up and down hills for 3 km instead of 1.5km. Rob Bignell, organizer of the event was excited about the day. "It went really well," he said. "I had teachers enthused about continuing this next year. I'm quite happy about that. The sport will only keep growing with so many committed people. people. It was an awesome competition." Juvies take their knocks The Dufferin Aggregates Orono Juveniles suffered their first setback at home Sunday night against Frankford. The game was an aggressive affair with many big hits and several penalties. In the end, it was the visitors who prevailed prevailed by the slim margin of 3-2. Frankford opened the scoring late in the opening opening period taking a 1-0 lead into period two. Orono tied it as Jeremy Czechowski banged home a rebound assisted by Mark Lemieux and Kyle Widmeyer, Frankford restored the POLICE AUCTION Police Auction Grist Mill Auction Centre Newtonville Fri., November 1st 6:00 p.m. Selling for Durham Regional Police Services, bicycles and miscellaneous retrieved property and the estate of the late Dennis Johnston from Little Brittain including shop equipment; Honda 3500 Gas Generator; Honda 5hp Gas Compressor; 220 Shop Compressor; Craftsman 8" 3-speed Drill Press; Craftsman 8" Table Saw; Yardman Gas Snowblower; Louisville Portable Scaffold; Makita 255 Mitre Chop Saw; Jiffy Gas Ice Drill; Werner 8ft.
