It was Kirby Centennial's 5th Terry Fox Run and Newcastle Public School's 1st annual Terry Fox Run that inspired students from both schools to raise an impressive amount of funds for cancer. Matt Parsons started the fundraiser at Kirby five years ago. "My father was the coordinator coordinator of the Terry Fox Run in Peterborough. I wanted to continue it wherever I was teaching," said Parsons, as he walked the Kirby trail with the other teachers, students and participating parents, on Monday. "My dad's twin brother died of cancer. Cancer affects everyone." The first year Parsons organized the run, the school raised $200. This year it was over $1,000. "We have raised more every year," Parsons said enthusiastically. Newcastle Public School held their Terry Fox Run on September 20th, and they also raised close to $1,000.
