Ironically, though, he hopes to hook up with the Oakville Aquatic Club this summer to continue his training. Many of us were rather timid in Grade 9, but not Majorahn. `The biggest goal in the first year in Grade 9 , 1 wanted to break all the school records," he said. He didn't have immediate success, managing only one individual junior record (the 50m back) as well as shar ing one junior relay record (the 4x50m free). But he proved a quick study and in, this, his final OAC year he locked up the final senior record that had been eluding him -- the 200m freestyle. He termed it the toughest one to crack. Coach Bonnell said it was all the more impressive given that it had been previously set by Peter Lloyd so soon after he had given up his club affilia tion that he was still ineligible for OFSAA. "For Miro who has basically been swimming for the high school -- this is his fifth year with the high school -- to break that record is really exception al. Now, all eight senior individual school records are his -- the 50m free, 100m free, 200m free, 50m back, 100m back, 100m breast, 100m indi vidual medley and 50m fly. And he also shares a school senior relay record (as part of that above noted OFSAA silver medal winning 4x50m free relay team). It really is an amazing achievement, for two reasons. First, is that the eight records were previously held by eight different swimmers, typically specialists in their This Q.E. He rewrote a storied record book, not a near empty one that you would find at a new school or one with a new program. Many of the records he broke were set during a particular golden period in the mid-eighties at Q.E. Park when they "won three OFSAA champi onships in a row said coach Bonnell. "So what he's doing ... here's a guy who's breaking records in all of the stroke areas but taking them away from people that just basically special ized in those strokes." Majorahn also owns four Halton records, three of them individual (100 breast, 100 I.M. and 50 free) and one shared relay (the above noted 4x50m free). His final medal haul at OFSAA over the years is also quite impressive. Individually, he has earned five gold (three of them in the 50m free as well as the 100m free and 100m breast). In the relay, he shares one more gold (junior 4x50m relay) and also has a silver medal (again, in the above mentioned senior 4x50m free). the individual medley over 200 metres, which incorporates all four strokes (50m each). "He did break the Halton record in the I.M. and he also broke the school record, so that's where he has a talent," said coach Bonnell. "And what he has to work on, then, is just with the longer practices, he can work on his endurance and then he can work up to the 200 I.M." "And the other area would be sprinting. He's a natural sprinter, which is the 50m and 100m (freestyle events)." Majorahn has received a lot of interest from universities throughout Canada and the U.S. which does not surprise Bonnell. `They look and see four practices a week with the high school, and the times that he's swimming. I think they really see a raw talent that they're real ly interested in. "He's not burned out. He's got a lot more potential. And of course when he gets into a program, a university, where they're going seven to nine times a week, his times should be coming down even more." For Bonnell, it's been a slice.
