Our greatest natural resource:I Celebrate National Volunteer Week April 9-15, 2000 Volunteering at Oakviile-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital Halton Healthcare S , E , t ,V 1 l * C ' E ,S NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK National Volunteer Appreciation Week provides us with an opportunity to salute the volunteers who have devoted so much o f their time and goodwill to the enhancement o f patient care services at Oakviile-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Our hospital is extremely fortunate to have the tremendous support o f over 800 dedicated volunteers - men, women, and youth - who share their time, energy and skills with us every day. Active in more than 70 patient care and support service areas, our volunteers' friendly smiles, encouraging words and compassion touch many lives and truly make a difference. The OTMH Auxiliary has contributed significantly to the hospital's renovation and equipment needs, making new and additional services possible in the community. Most recently, the OTMH Auxiliary has pledged $750,000 towards the Renal Dialysis Unit. Coming from all walks o f life and ranging in age from 14 to 94, our volunteers are an integral part o f the healthcare team and they are a treasured tradition in our community. Volunteer Appreciation Week provides us with the opportunity to publicly thank each and every one o f our volunteers for their caring spirit and commitment to quality patient care. Volunteers make the world go round, and here at S.E.N.A.C.A. we would be lost without all of the incredible volunteers who come everyday to help us out. A volunteer is someone who gives their time freely and hap pily to help others. A volunteer is a caring and compassion ate person who selflessly gives of themselves. Our program would not be what it is without all of the wonderful volunteers who give their time in a variety of ways. There are those who come in to entertain for us through playing music, singing and dancing on a weekly basis. Others come in and help out with clerical duties, fundraising and the running of activities, serving snacks and lunch, and just friendly visiting. We even have volunteers of the canine persuasion who come by weekly to visit with us and provide some pure, unadulterat ed affection. Thanks lo more than 120 volun teers - members of the O FH C , the community of Oakville, and friends of field hockey - The Oakville Field Hockey Club was able to raise more than $26,000 for Air Canada's Dreams Take Flight. Children from Oakville suffering from a terminal illness or a severe mental or physical disability children who might otherwise never be able to go! - will enjoy a day of fun and adventure in Disney World. The Angela Bruce Chapter IODE of Oakville was established in 1933 and our sixty-seven members are volunteers who offer their time freely so that we can carry out these charitable works. In our community, bursaries are presented annually to all Secondary Schools, Sheridan College and Adult Continuing Education, along with two four-year University Scholarships. Many local, provincial and national ser vices requiring financial aid are also supported. The Opportunity Shop on Kerr Street is our main source of funds where members sort, price and sell items which have been donated by themselves and the community.
