10 Oakville Beaver Weekend Sunday, April 9, 2000 Q E P fa sh io n sh o w d isp la y e d ta le n t a n d c lo th e s By H olly M acPherson & Lindsay Stockerm ans GRADE 7, QUEEN ELIZABETH PARK SCHOOL I f fashion sets trends, then Queen Elizabeth Park is a trend-setter! After weeks and weeks of hard work and organization, early practices, Q EP recently put on a truly amazing performance. On Wednesday, March 8th, a special fashion show entitled `Club Life 2000' KIDS SPEAK OUT School News was presented to the com munity. With real life DJs and the latest songs, Club Life 2000 was a spectacular hit. This remarkable event was sponsored by more than 40 popular stores from Oakville, Burlington and Mississauga. The event raised over $2,000 for Covenant House in Toronto. Covenant House provides care for homeless and street teens. The event had extraordi nary acts such as a solo of `These Foolish Games,' originally sung by pop star Jewel. The fashion show also featured a mini `stomp' dance that received huge applause from the audience. Throughout the show, there were mini raffles for items such as CDs and pens. During the intermission, the audience was able to get up and stretch their legs or buy a drink. We took the opportunity to speak with one of the student models, Stephanie Paczay, and ask about the amount of practice and stress involved in the production. Stephanie said that there was stress and there was also a great deal of practice, but it was great fun. The models for the evening show were from Grade 7 through OAC and they were all excellent. A ll of the practicing paid off. Fashions on show includ ed Capris, tank-tops, mini skirts, long-sleeve shirts, baggy pants, and more. These were the latest fash ions and fashions that teens could afford. They were the best and most affordable clothes to be found any where in Oakville, Burlington or Mississauga. It was a hit. There was a line-up to get in and Club Life 2000 was SRO . Students felt that the fashion show was as good as any professional show. This stu dent praise was wellreceived by our model friends, Shannon Mackenzie and Stephanie Paczay. They said that such praise was a huge compliment for all who took part. The event got such a huge response, even The Oakville Beaver showed up! Every student, staff mem ber, and parent helper at Q EP is looking forward to the next exciting event. There are dances, barbecues and plays to look forward to. A ll of these events and activ ities illustrate the spirit, community commitment, and the enthusiasm of our school... the Trend Setter of Oakville.
