It was a just reward for the young athlete, who has battled injuries and a lack of funding while maintaining an A-plus average in high school. In Calgary, Sapenov competed in a round-robin competition with four others in the M50 class, winning every match to finish with 40 points. Erik Vandersanden of Ontario was second with a 3-1 mark. Sapenov was coming off another impressive performance when he competed in the 2016 Sportif International competition in Edinburgh, Scotland. He finished with a silver medal in his category at an event that attracted more than 500 athletes from 14 countries. Sapenov's next major goal is to compete in the 2017 Cadet World Judo Championships. 21 | Friday, June 3, 2016 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Cole's Terrapins fall short in NCAA lacrosse final Oakville's Bryan Cole and the Maryland Terrapins came within one goal of winning the NCAA field lacrosse championship.
