THE OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday February 2, 2000 I !.: I V I n Ei J V u Dump pass will cost you $150 If you regularly drop off garbage at the Halton Region Waste Management Site Container Station, you may want to consider the region's new annual pass. The container station is available for Halton residents to dispose of small loads of general waste. Visits are $5 per vehicle for loads of up to 150 kilograms (330 pounds), and then 10.60 per kilo gram in excess. However, the new con tainer station pass could save residents up to $110 if they frequently visit the sta tion with extra small loads (two bags or less). "Those residents who come to the container station each and every week with only a couple of garbage bags spend the same $5 fee as someone who comes in with several bags. That's $200 a year," said Cam Weldon, treasurer of Halton Region. "By purchasing a 52-visit pass for only $150, they're saving $110." Even residents who only visit the sta tion every two weeks can save $55 with a 26-visit pass for $75. Both these non-transferable passes are available to Halton residents only and are valid Mondays through Fridays only. All garbage must be bagged in standard size household garbage bags, with a maximum of two bags per visit eligible for use with the pass. Container station passes can be pur chased at the Halton Region Waste Management Site, Scalehouse, 5400 Regional Road 25, Milton, or at the Halton Regional Centre on Bronte Road. Requests by mail will also be accepted at the Halton Regional Centre, 1151 Bronte Rd. O A K - L A N D FORD A/C7»ir LI NCOLN River Oaks resident Cathy Collins, who sits on a neighborhood school committee, echoes Lloyd's comments. "I'm excited that the board is actual ly looking at this," she said. "I'm hop ing it translates into something." The need for new schools in north east Oakville is not new or surprising, admits area trustee Debbie Marklew, who is optimistic the board could open the River Oaks school in 2001. Trustees will get a clearer picture of the board's financial state with regard to new school construction on Feb. 9th, when a report by the consulting firm C.N. Watson is presented to the board. The report is to provide a picture of the region's school accommodation needs over the next 20 years, well as the board's status with regard to getting provincial money for building new schools. While a new River Oaks school will take some of the pressure off over crowded north Oakville schools, M arklew said the comprehensive northeast accommodation study will create a long-term plan for the area. `T his will show, over the next 10 years, where everyone will go to school," she said. "When we started this process, it wasn't to be a bandage, it was to be a long-term accommoda tion study. "At the end o f the day, when you buy or sell a house in northeast Oakville, you should know exactly where your kids are going to go to school for the next 10 years. And that's the whole idea." The study potentially impacts stu dents attending Sunningdale, M unn's, Montclair and Lome Skuce elementary schools. For a copy of the study, con tact A1 Greyson, Beth Shelswell or Gary Sadler with the Halton District School Board at 335-3663.
