- Church Destroyed in Fire Being Rebuilt
OHSWEKEN - It was 17 months ago that fire destroyed the 88-year-old frame building that was home to the Grand River United Church.
The church was where 65-year-old Leonard Lickers was baptized and where his mother led the choir and played organ.
It was the church where many of his family went.
"It means a lot to me," said Lickers, chairman of the church's building committee. He's not alone. The church was important to everybody in the congregation, said Lickers.
So members are understandably pleased that they will soon begin to build a new home on Fourth Line and Mohawk Road just behind where the historic church once stood.
