Participants can sign up for walk online Residents invited to Cram-a-Cruiser continued from p.17 "We are a resource for parents and provide a good experience for them and their children during their early years.... We provide families with the skills and supports they need to tackle what many consider to be the most important job they'll ever do -- parenting their children." The centre also operates a licensed nursery school at its main facility at 461 North Services Rd. W. in Oakville. A toy-borrowing shop as well as a used-clothing store, are located inside the centre. "Parents start their journey here. New mothers find a lot of support especially when they're on maternity leave because they can come here and meet other new moms and socialize," McCann said. "We have days when mothers get together and talk about everything but parenting. "Children play with other children and develop their social skills before they go to school." Those interested in participating in the Piggy Pack Walk are asked to sign up online at www.op-cc.ca and visit the "Fundraiser" page. You can also download the printable page. Those unable to participate are welcomed to still donate online or visit any of the four locations. This Saturday (Aug. 29), Halton police are inviting residents to help pack a cruiser with non-perishable food and school supplies for those in need in the community. The event, Cram-a-Cruiser, will run from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the parking lot of the Real Canadian Superstore, 201 Oak Walk Dr. Officers will be accepting food donations for President's Choice Children's Charity. "I think people sometimes forget that there are people in need within our community," said Staff Sgt. Julie Craddock-Bijl of Halton police's Community Mobilization Bureau. "We know there are people in need and there are kids here who simply cannot afford to get the things on the back-toschool shopping list. Those school supplies we receive will be distributed by police to kids in need in the local community." Halton police will also hold a barbecue with proceeds going to President's Choice Children's Charity. McGruff the Crime Dog will be present to pose for photos with children. Donation items most in need include: canned meat, fish, fruit and vegetables, as well as cereal, pasta and sauce, peanut butter, rice, soup, baby supplies, back to school supplies and personal hygiene products. 31 | Thursday, August 27, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com serta® mattresses at outlet prices 6 new lines to choose from queen sizes starting as low as available in twin to king sizes Hurontario st.
