Buzz taking 2-0 series lead to Nepean The Oakville Buzz finds itself in a familiar position through two games of the Ontario Lacrosse Association junior B playoffs. Oakville posted a pair of comfortable wins over the Nepean Knights last weekend at Toronto Rock Athletic Centre to jump out to a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five opening-round series, which shifts to Nepean this weekend for the concluding games. However, in both of its playoff exits the past two seasons, the Buzz held 2-0 series leads before seeing its opponents rally for three straight wins. Oakville, which won 10 of 12 games prior to sitting several starters in its regular-season finale, carried that momentum into the playoffs. The Buzz doubled up Nepean 12-6 Friday evening, then earned an 11-5 victory Saturday afternoon. Foster Cuomo and Keyan McQueen each recorded hat tricks in the series opener, when Joe French and Eddie Renaud both collected four points. Other goal scorers included Jake Nyhuus, Dalton Follows, Mathew Dilella, Brent Noseworthy and Ben French. In Game 2, Joe French had three goals and four assists, McQueen scored twice and added four helpers, and Cuomo provided two goals 31 | Thursday, July 2, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Spencer `doesn't take himself too seriously' continued from p.30 "As he got older and he started to recognize how good he was and the opportunities that were coming, you rarely saw him look at himself and say `I'm better than everyone else.'... He doesn't take himself too seriously, but he does everything you need to do to get yourself ready." Spencer scored six goals and added 30 assists in 67 games last season with the Peterborough Petes, who picked him third overall in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection. The Loyola high school grad has played for Canadian under-18 squads on multiple occasions, winning gold at last year's Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup and bronze at the world U18 championships this past spring. Capobianco played one year in Oakville The Mississauga-born Capobianco joined the Rangers in his minor midget season after years with the Greater Toronto Hockey League's Toronto Marlies. "Yes, he was only here for a year, but that was a pretty important year," said Harvey, who brought in several out-of-town players in an effort to prevent a core of talented Oakville players from departing for the GTHL. "Guys came here for a reason, and the Oakville guys who were already here stayed for a reason." That was evidenced by the Rangers' OHL Cup win as well as the fact that an MOHArecord 12 players were selected in the OHL draft, three of them in the first 10 picks. That included Capobianco, who went seventh overall to the Sudbury Wolves. Capobianco collected 10 goals and 30 assists in 68 games last season, his second with the Wolves.
