But they also help kick off the hock ey season with their annual skate and equipment sale which this year will be held at Maplegrove Arena this Friday, (Sept. 5), from 6:30 p.m .-10 p.m. It is cash only. Drop off time for those selling used equipment is Septem ber 3/4 j (Wednesday and Thursday). 7-9:30 p.m. Please, no helmets, jocks and neck guards. But bring items such as skates, pants, pads, goalie gear, etc. to the arena at the designated drop-off times. You will be given a sheet on which to list your items. Each sheet holds 10 items and costs $2. There is a 20 per cent commission charge on all items sold. The sale is Friday night only. All un-sold items must be picked up Saturday morning. Volunteers are needed all four days to help set up (on Wednesday), help receive items (on W ednesday and Thursday), help with the sale (on Friday), and help with the pick up and clean-up (on Saturday). Saturday's third annual Bronte Harbour Twilight 5K run and 2K walk are running well ahead of any previous year. The race kicks off at 7 p.m. at the Legion Hall on Bronte Rd. The addition of power walkers, recreational walkers and a competitive wheelchair division has increased the popularity of this unique twilight race which will again raise money for Rebounders of Canada, a Halton-based organization founded by survivors o f childhood cancer. There should also be a competitive element to the race, too, with some local national runners lending their support to the cause, including: · Kyle Jones: the Canadian junior triathlon champ is preparing for the junior world triathlon championships in New Zealand in December; · Kevin Smith: a member of the University of Waterloo track and field and cross country team qualified for the world duathlon championships; · Sean Betchel: represented Canada at this year's Pan American Games and he will be a competitor at the World Triathlon Championships in New Zealand; · Melanie Hawtin: now 14. she qualified for the world par alympic championships when she was just 13. "It will be an evening of competition, fun, awards, draw prizes and excitement for the entire family." said race director Brian Bidwell. "The race route is through the scenic and his toric harbour area of Bronte. This year we are distributing a letter suggesting spectator support of the runners and walkers. Hand clapping and cheering does so much to encourage par ticipants in this type of race." Race entries and race information can be obtained from the Running Company, 118 Thomas Street (905 815-1952). 00% Off For All Your Soccer Apparel and Equipment Needs A Great Selection of Rugby Gear and Apparel also Available S O C C E R l A I U U O R LD (Across from Oakville GO) WE TAKE TRADE-INS · WE TAKE TRADE DELSA G o lf Rd.
