There are also two body types, coupe and convertible. The XK8 coupe is $95,950 and the convertible is $104,950. The XKR coupe is $107,950 and the convertible is $116,950. While the exterior looks the same, a lot of work has gone in under the skin, some 900 changes are claimed by Jaguar. These include: the V8 engines enlarged to 4.2-litres from 4.0; state-of-the-art ZF six-speed transmission as also used by BMW; Dynamic Stability Control standard; Emergency Brake Assist standard; Adaptive Restraint Technology System (dual stage airbag deploy ment) standard; Adaptive Cruise Control optional; High Intensity Discharge Xenon headlights on supercharged XKR models; Race-bred Brembo brakes on the supercharged XKR models. The 4.2-litre engine in the XK8 produces 294 hp and 303 lb/ft of torque. The big Eaton super charger on the XKR produces 390 hp and 399 lb/ft of torque. The XK8 goes from 0-100 kph in 6.1 seconds, the XKR in just 5.2 seconds. During a recent ride and drive, I was lucky enough to sample the XKR in both coupe and con vertible versions. The convertible was first and it was optioned up to include 20-inch alloys (18-inch are standard up from 17-inch on the previous XKs). It also came with a handling package, although the car already gobbles up the pavement like few other cars. This includes beefier suspension, slightly low ered ride height and big-time anti-sway bars. I should point out that these options are pricey, even for Jaguar. The 20-inch wheels are offered in three designs called Montreal, Paris or Montreal and are yours for a mere (US) $6,000. If you want the handling package that goes with the rims, then factor in (US$9000).
