pull in any way have hesitated about washing them and will wait for some information from you or the readersMRSLGN DEAR MRSLGNDid any washing instructions come with your draperies as you mentioned they are supposed to wash If so follow those directions expiicity have been advised that such curtains wash beautifully in the machine if only lukewarm or cold is used One source said they could be put in the dryer for about 10 minutes but not left until dry and then should be hung immediately Another advised letting the draperies drip dry over line without putting in the dryer If you do use the dryer use extreme caution so they are not so hot that the rubber backing could be harmed have never washed such draperies myself but know they dry clean beautifullyPOLLY DEAR POLLYMy Pet Peeve is with those shoe companies who only manufacture shoes in wide widths in sizes six or more wear size five and connot find shoes in wide width 50 have the choice of too tight shoe too long shoe or no shoes this month for Florence Bomer Mrs Bomer is retiring at the end of the month ending period in the hospitals history which started in March 1963 with the opening of the first physiotherapy department was lucky she said plied for job at time en the hospital was looking for someone to head the new department Mrs Bomer managed the department until six years ago Since that time she has continued to work on part time basis three days week When she began working at Royal Victoria Hospital her husband Reg and their two children Phillip and Caroline were living at Canadian Forces Base Borden where Reg was member of the Canadian Provost Corps It was during the time she was member of the Cana dian Armed Forces that she met her husband After graduating from the Universi ty of Toronto in 1942 as physiotherapist she went to England with 215i Canadian General Hospital It was there she met her husbandtobe Following the end of the war she ran the physiotherapy department of the Veteran Hospital in Hamilton for one year until in closed in 1947 At that time she returned to England and later married Soon after posting for Reg member of the British Army took the couple to East Africa where they stayed for oneyear Both the couples children were born after they returned to England In 1952 we moved to Canada after persuaded Reg life was better here than in England she said In 1957 Mrs Borner began work at the Rehabilitation Centre in Halifax where she had moved with her husband through posting with the Canadian Armed Forces with whom he was now member That was very interesting work Many of our patients were coal miners from Spr inghill and Cape Breton and they were very nice to work with she said When her husband received posting to Ottawa she work ed for one year at the National Defence Medical Centre In 1962 the couple received their last posting which was to Canadian Forces Base Borden After retiring from the forces Bomer owned and operated Sweet Briar Lodge Nursing Home after it There is more staff to look after more administration and paper work and more pa tients its rewarding work because you dont get the pa tients who are terriblv sick and must improve lot Mrs Bomer said recovery depends lot on how people react to their illness If patient wont ry try to help him or herself youre flogging dead horse Slit said She noted it is becoming more recognized that it pa tients emotions have great effect on their state of health Mrs Bomer said most pa tients are cooperative and very patient about the length of time it takes to return mobility to part of their bodv
