On top of things Using skateboard the latest craze in England Britains top choirboy Andrew March 12 arrives at Londons St George hurch to receive an award worth about $2000 for his church in lunbridge Wells Kent The youth won the money in the 1977 Heditfusion hoiristers Awards competi tion AP Photo Remembrance Day pray for peace By REV WALDOCK First Baptist hurch Next Friday is November 11th the day on which we traditionally celebrate Remem brance Day At the cenotaph at Memorial Square there is usually the ceremony of the laying of wreathes preceded by parade of Legionnaires people who lost sons in the wars and local organizations such as the Boy Scouts The ceremony is usually very impressive for the participants but seems dull to many others There seems to be whole generation of people who have never had to taste war and all this foofah about parades and medals and wreathes seems en tirely unnecessary But for the people who have lived and fought and who have had sons and buddies die in bat tle Remembrance Day is very important Some people say war is hell These are the people who have been most closely involved with it They have seen something of the horror they have tasted death They have lost everything but somehow have managed to hang on to their lives and the last vestiges of sanity For them war is hell Some seem to see war as time when some of the noblest characteristics of man are allowed to express themselves Who has not thrilled to see parade of fine fit eager trained young men ready and willing to work together for their common endeavor Who has not been deeply humbled to stories of heroism bravery and sacrifice that war has called forth from your young men and women War may be hell but it has often become the arena where man has been able REV WALDOCK to achieve his highest and noblest But war has also been seen to bring out the beastliness in man War bears testimony to acts of savage brutality un questioned viciousness evil and violence The story of war on our planet is strewn with blood violence and death Perhaps as we approach Remembrance Day again we should remember the loss that war causes Some people think of the loss of money or wealth or possessions or property We ought to think too of the loss of potential young lives snuffed out at the beginning of promising careers families decimated homes ruined bodies and minds crippled This Remembrance Day we ought to take things seriously and remember And pray for peace Moslems in London will soon have mosque LONDON Cl After nearly 20 years in prcparation Londons first mosque coin pictc painting of the crucifixion of Christ little girl who was visiting in her home came and stood beside her gazi intently at the picture When she was ask what the picture told her about the Lord she replied That He was thinking about me Her childlike faith had grasped the sublime truth of the love of God for her Everyone likes to be thought of to be remembered We enjoy birthday remem brance from our loved ones pastoral call when there is illness in the home letter from an old friend But to have God think about usdoos that sound bit far out It shouldnt If God thought about us to the extent that He died for us is not it logical that He should think about every detail of our lives CUNDLES HEIGHTS CHURCH At undies Heights Public School iwihw 1th Guest Minister Rev Allan Mack Special music
