10 the oxamlnor Tmmy October 18 1977 general manager of the club said Monday Scott Haskins Examiner Sports Writer By SCOTT HASKINS Examiner rts Writer If things dont change in ig hurry the Barrie Flyers of the Ontario Hockey Association Senior Hockey League may face the same fate as the dinosaur Barrie hockey fans are refusin to support the club and unless there is drastic change the club may cease to exist after this season Barrie has long been known for ts teams so Whats wrang the SUPPOI 0f have leprosy and they wont mt you over we neau with 1811 hockey st1cks if you ow up at game really dont know what the problem is Steve Cripps It certainly cant be because of the poor calibreof play or because the players arent local Every player on this years club lives in Barrie except for newcomer Bob Russell and Phil Branston The Flyers are an exciting hockey club that deserves chance The clubs last home game against Cambridge produced as good hockey as you would find anywhere and yet there were Only 150 people in the stands When the two clubs travell ed to Cambridge for return match Saturday there were 1700 spectators in the stands The Flyers have the poorest home attendance mark of any of the seven teams in the Senior Hockey League according to Crip So far this season the effib has averaged just 175 people for each home game The money the club receives from those people doesnt even begin to pay for the operating costs and the money doesnt drop out of the sky It has to come from somewhere It takes lot of money to run hockey club Cripps said Last season it cost us close to $25000 to run the team The small crowds are really starting to be discouraging We are in the sport because we like it but we cant afford to continually fork over the money year after year It cant continue much longer Cripps made it clear that the club is in no immediate danger of folding It definitely will finish the season but STEVE CRIPPS unless the club may have to drop fans stay away watch The league is on the move for professional teams crowds increase in size If 50000 fans can sit in Rand editor of The Examiner Bowling for his first goa good chance the league will One of the
