Ambulance for their help and to the lnnisfil Police Dept for leading the parade along the route to In nisfil Park Rynard wants end to strikes by public sector employees Simcoe North MP Dr Rynard says the recent strike by air traffic controllers pro bably could have been avoided if the government hadnt shown evidence of bad blood by refusing to submit the request for 12 per cent salary increase to the antiinflation board They asked for 12 per cent raise but the government refused this request offering instead eight per cent One wonders why the government did not submit the 12 per cent increase asked for by the air controllers to the antiinflation board It has to go there in any event even to sanction the eight per cent Doesnt it seem to you that there might not have been strike at all if the matter had been handed over to the anti inflation board from the start of negotiations Rynard suggests that the bad blood between the con trollers and the government may have stemmed from last years disagreements about air traffic control in French KEY ISSUE The key issue in this instance was that although the strikers demands may well have been inflationary the controllers had the right to go on strike It is just 10 years ago that the federal public service workers were given the right to strike Adds Rynard here Parlia ment was called and moved swiftly to pass law to end the air controllers strike thus mak ing the previous legislation made to years ago illegal The Simcoe North MP con tends that its time to end the absurdity and make public service strikes in essential ser vices illegal Ten years ago civil ser vants were underpaid This they accepted because they were guaranteed security in their jobs Over the years wages have become com parable with industry and ser vices in other fields yet today we see the irritation of mail ser vices being disrupted and ports railroads and airports shutdown All this is causing havoc and injury to Canada and the Cana dian people Public reaction is strong it letters receive are any indication And believe theyare Owen Sound man appointed Foresters honorary colonel Minister of National Defence Barney Danson has announced
