the exalnlner Tuesday August 18 1977 rs Clarkson Hotel in hot water Storr pulls string on Slessor Starr Electric isnt club easily intimidated No way is the Intermediate Division club about to let the reputation carried by the Slessor and Periard Insurance Club of the Senior Softball League throw it into panic If anything the Slessor and Periard club is worried After all it was they who fumbled against Starr in the opener of the best ofthree Ontario Amateur Association OASA Intermediate AA playoff series Monday at Queens Park Starr sixthplace club in the City Fastball Leagues In termediate Division took the opener 30 Second game of the zone playoffs is tonight at Queens Park at 830 pm errgr by Slessor shortstop Neil Oarker which put Bob Skinner on ase Ray Jeffery followed with double to put two men in scoring position McLennan got the second out of the inning only to have right fielder Norm Tetelock slap tunscoring single through the infield Starr Slessor strikeouts before Tetlock slammed line shot through the in field to plate the third run for Starr and the second RBI of the game for Tetlock Starr finished game with eight hits Ted Carr had pair as did Tetlock but it was Jeffery who led the club with three hits Jeffery also sparkled on number of sharply hit balls to the let of the Starr infield Only one Slessor runner made if as far as third base heading into ninth inning and the last chance by Slessor Duffy got the first pair of batters to Clarkson Hotel knows its going to get ra on the knuckles for throwing wrench into the workin ofthe rie City Fastball League Sunday ar Clarkson couldnt get enough players together to field ground out only have Doug Keans ed up two cheap points ment team and as result the PeterReina Sports Hustlers pick It was nothing game as far as affecting the standings of the eightteam dlISIOII Hustlers are solidy in first place just as Clarkson Hotel is entrenched in the leagues base It was just poor way to end the schedule It didnt do the stature According to Ga not this season then next year meet league commitment Park part of Clarkson Nick Owen looks to have crown The CoOp with him Hustlers also needed the from long layoff while the rainedout games ment Saturdav discuss new schedule burden of counting on the same ball Still coaches and managers supposedly have developed sense of responsibility They are as much to blame as the management There as time when players were eager to play ball Art Martin coach of Clarkson Hotel was upset Monday at hawng to cough up the game to its hell of way to end the schedule as far as Im con eerncd he said We agree suddendeath tiebreaker for South Simcoc Baseball League considering staging canoea Clarkson is expected to lose its bond and come under heayy fire for giving up the game It not the first time Clarkson Hotel has been unable to We look back to July game when Starr Electric was to have played Clarkson at Queens This game was never played due to lack of players on the Letter Starr Electric was awarded the game and the two pomts attached to the win It was minor inconvenience then but it turned out to be major thorn in the side of the Optimist Club which has to wonder iwhat would have happened if Clarkson had been able to field club and take on the Starr club After all anything can happen in ball game The Optimist Club missed the playoffs by one game Starr Electric was the club sitting so close and yet so far away at the close of the 21game schedule No team should have to default game due to lack of players Every game should be played out even if it is nothing game if only to truthfully record the season shortstop was hitting at an even 400 average He did not dress for Sundays loss to Barrie Floor and Wall It was possible but doubtful even if he had that Hustlers Peter Doucette hitting 372 could have caught up Doucette and number of other PeterReino players miss ed chance to improve their hitting distinct possibility that the Hustlers could have snuck three hitters into the top four batting list game to shake out the cobwebs Hustlers still managed to capture the championship prize money of the Duntroon intermediate mens fastball tourna Jtist how Clarkson will be reprimanded probably wont come to light until next season when the teams gather to The City Fastball League does have lot more leeway now with the creation of its two division set up The new system allows team movement therefore relieving the Team management usually carries the brunt of the rap and rightly so is their responsibility to make sure the team they put
