hand and the grounds were filled to capacity total of 23 steam engines took part hissing puffing and whistling through the threeday event The event is run by the Georgian Bay Steam Auto Gas Antique Association which is headed by president Bruce Buckle of Queensville Ont Buckle says the club now has 450 members who are mainly from Ontario Exhibitors came from Ot tawa Bracebridge Milton Walkerton Georgetown and Seabright as well as other parts of the country This is the eighth year the show has been held in Cookstown and Buckle says it gets larger each years We started out very small with only 12 members The first show was held in Barrie and the next two were held in Coll ingwood Since then we have held it here Steam engines are no longer easy to find Buckle says They are not readily available Some come up through the sale of estates but not very many And when it comes to replace ment parts its mainly make your own if other members in the club dont have it new exhibit at this years show was wooden pump maker brought in by the Na tional Museum of Science and Technology Visitors had the opportunity to see an old fashioned pump made from solid piece of tree trunk An automatic Beatty of Cobiconk and hhis team of Belgian horses gave demonstration of pulling power The tWo horses together weight 3300 pounds and have pulled as much as 9500 pounds Beatty says he uses them on his farm to haul logs out of the bush and enters them regularly in pulling competitions at fairs Inside the large fair building local craftsmen displayed their abilities in making such things as hooked
