anonymity But now that her book Hay wire has been published and chosen as the Bookofthe Month Clubs spring selection anonymity is luxury of the past for its 39yearold author dont really like to have people know too much about me dont like to be in the public eye said Miss Hay ward who up to now has main tained her privacy despite working as high fashion model and actress and being the daughter of stageand scrcen actress Margaret Sulla van and agentproducer Leland Hayward In her book she reveals the story of her troubled family her mother married four times and dead at 51 her father who died in 1971 married five times her younger brother and sister in mental institutions and her sister Bridget an apparent suicide at 21 It would have been sense less undertaking if hadnt been candid said Mrs Hay ward Ircallystartedthe book asa private adventure into myself and had no thought of it being published she said wanted to See whether Miss Hayward calls her could recall in any detail events surrounding my sisters death particularly so began with that which was probably the most difficult It took almost three years to write the book To find count erpoint to her own memories she interviewed family and friends Among those interviewed were Ilenry Fonda to whom her mother once was married Jane and Peter Fonda with whom she grew up and her brother Bill now 35 and film producer in partnership with Peter Fonda Miss Hayward said she had problem coming to grips with her parents divorce after 10 years of marriage started out thinking of my mother as sainted martyr spent most of my life with her and had fierce loyalty to her because thought she was vul nerable She suffered lot when my sister and brotherat her own suggestionwent to live with father By the time finished the book felt deep sympathy not only for mother but for father ended up thinking she was more neurotic than had when she was alive and father less neurotic than had thought mother very conflicted per son who had high ex pectations of herself and all the people around her Her acting ability certainly carried into her life and her charm and colorful personality carried into her acting she said With her dynamism and charisma she was the centre of attention and when she entered room the focus was imme diater on her She carried with her an extraordinary quality of energy and magnetism Miss Hayward who lives in Los Angeles has two sons 19 and 20 who are in college and 1+yearold daughter by her second husband actor Dennis Hopper As for the possibility of re marrying she said think Im awfully independent and fairly mercurial It is rare man who could engage my at tention for so long As get older get more ec centric and more selfish If were younger and had more cartilege than bone it would be easier to adjust dont know if could commit myself to single human being now Government new villain in motion picture field By JAMES MEADE Copley News Service HOLLYWOOD When mo tion pictures began
