financial assistance to the Collingwood Shipyards says Bill Fox NDP candidate in DuflerinSimcoe The NDP is committed to giving financial assistance to the Collingwood Shipyards in order to create 1000foot dry dock so that there will be jobs and contracts in the future he said Fox at press conference Friday told reporters he had been talking to people at the shipyards that morning While the yards have one con tract right now he said the financial security of this town is in jeopardy as long as this badly needed 1000f00t dry dock is needed Fox said NDI leader Stephen Lewis is the only political leader who has visited Collingwood to see the shipyar ds and referred to an addreSs Lewis made in the Legislature In his address on April Lewis said it is inexcusable for the provincial government to pass the Collingwood Shipyards off as federal matter Lewis said that extending the dry dock from 750 to 1000feet so the company can tender on ships it cannot otherwise build is one way the provincial gover nment can help WONT ALLOW Fox also said the NDP would not allow Americanowned Greyhound Bus Lines to take over Canadianowned Gray Coach Lines IorontoSudbury and TorontoBuffalo runs As result of the takeover Gray Coach Lines has said number of small municipalities will loose their service Those runs are unprofitable and have been subsidized by the profitable routes number of Progressive Con servative candidate for the riding seems to think other bus companies will take over the lost routes But cant think of com pany that wants to take over an unprofitable operation Fox said Fox said he was little frightened at first when he heard that Lewis had promised to raise the minimum wage in Ontario to $4 an hour IIE AGREES When Lewrs was in Or angeville last week he was asked about it and Fox says he agrees with the program The NDP program would raise the minimum wage to $3 right now he said As of July Ontario will have the second lowest minimum wage in Canada Newfoundlands will belower Even though Ontario is the richest province Fox said the minimum wage provides an an nual income for family with three children that falls below the poverty line The NDP would raise the minimum wage to $4 within year after being elected but there would be exemptions Tourists operations in the Collingwood area would likely be exempted he said higher minimum wage would not lead to great exodus on industry Fox said When people have more money they spend more moneyhe said Fox also questioned the need for the election reading quotes from John Dumitrascu vice president of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Par ty Dumitrascu said It was an unneCessary election The government was working They should have gone on and done something for Ontario carried out the resolutions of the par tys annual meeting The op position was cooperating Im not sure Im in the right party democracy doesnt function in the Progressive Conservative Party BILL FOX dry dock 00K WHOS
