candidates can Tuesday night he convinced Wasaga Beach council to ask the Association of the Mu nicipalities of Ontario AMO for its support in getting the tax law changed to permit can didates for municipal office to claim the deduction like their federal and provincial counter parts While preparing his 1976 in come tax return last week Coun Michevicus learned he could not deduct about $200 he spent last fall to get elected was flabbergasted when found out about it he said had always assumed that they election expenses were deductible The $200 is no big deal he added but it is matter of principle In last Decembers municipal elections 23 people ran for the Volkswagen Honda Reasonable rates licensed mechanics EGON MOTORS 204 Shanty Bay ltd73745791 the examiner Thursday Aprll 28 1977 very lively campaign UNFAIR He said it unfair that those people who went out of their way to offer their services at the grassroots of government cannot deduct their expenses while candidates for Partia ment and Provincial Legislature where the power to grant the deductions rests can claim their expenses on their tax returns The situation becomes more incredible he said consider ing the very attractive de ductions given to those who contribute to federal and provincial political party cof fers Federal tax regulations permit taxpayers to deduct 75 per cent of their donations to political
