answer about marriage Dear Readers Several months ago conducted survey through the column that produced infinitely more anger than when foolishly said woman who doesnt iron her towels and bedsheets is lazy The question that created all the chaos was this If you had it to do over again would you have had children More than 30000 responses were tabulated Seventy per cent said No1 That survey was interpreted as an attack on motherhood which is right up there with apple pie and the United States Marines People were so incensed they com plained to the media Several newspapers and radio stations took their own surveys The results were quite different wasnt surprised When parent gets call from newspaper or radio station and is asked to respond to question of that nature even though they are told We dont need to know your name or This is strictly confidentialthey fear that their identity may be revealed An unsigned letter to Ann Landers guarantees anonymity People can say whatever they please and no one will ever know they said it It can be therapeutic too And now by popular demand have completed another survey The question If you had it to do over again would you marry the person to whom you are now married Within 10 days may office was bombarded with 50000 pieces of mail The mail is still coming in predict it will continue for another two weeksat least Although requested postcards only well over 7000 had to write letters to tell me in detail how wonderfulor how lousyit is My instructions were as follows Tell me on postcard no letters please if you had it to do over again would you have married the same person Write Yes or No State whether you are male or female and the number of years you have been married Are you ready Well there are two sets of responses and there was big difference Thirty per cent signed their car ds and letters tmany gave their addresses Seventy per cent did not sign Here are the results of the signed mail Seventy per cent said yes30 per cent said no 0f the signed cards and letters 80 per cent came from females and 20 per cent came from males The unsigned mail told me more than wanted to know Fortyeight per cent said yes and 52 per cent said no The breakdown according to sex was 70 per cent from females and 30 per cent from males We received 42 postcards from homosexuals who consid ered themselves just as married anyone else They were all happy and voted YES couldnt do thing with the responses to my request that the readers let me know how many years they have been married At least half of my respondents were confused and gave me their age It is obvious that not only Johnny cant read but his parents have the same problem Tomorrow will print excerpts from some of the cards and lcttcrsialong with my conclusions Wflembeci Kids parents swap places Parents When you call your children to go visit your friends with you do they hide under the car and refuse to come out Do they make excuses for not going like they have to stay home and rotate the tires on their tricycle Do they exude all the enthusiasm of child invited to fire drill in December in the middle of showers Then these words are for you SupposeAjust supposemt situation was reversed and you were being dragged along tc visit their friends It might go somethinglike this Look Mom would you and Dad stop dawdling or were going to be late at Debbie and Mikes house And Im telling you before we go dont want you whining around about when are we coming home and running in and out every twc minutes to teilf And for crying out loud take something tc do some of your favorite toys Mom why dont you take your needlepoint That would keep you occupied for awhile Your home workshop is out of the question Dad Its too big Take something smalllike maybe your keyring to play with At the house the introductions are brief This is Mom and Dad but youll forget their names anyway Say hello And would you look at your parents swear theyve grown foot since we last saw them How are things at work And where did you get that pretty dress want you to meet my parents Mom is 34 and Dad is 36 You should have lot in common Now run along and get acquainted Maybe their Mom will show you her new microwave oven and their Dad his new power mower Keep it down now Later as the children are really having good time the four parents approach the children Kids when are we going home All the parents are sleepy Besides Dad has to be in court early tomorrow and he has brief to write tonight The kids look at one another Isnt that just like parent Putting everything off until Sunday night How long have you known about the brief Last Friday says their father likely story Dont they drive you crazy swear you cant take parents anywhere and have good time What say we get together sometime soon without the ADULT In the car on the way home you hear the kids say love Debbie and Mike but their parents are really spoiled brats hope you two didnt drink lot of liquids or youll be up all night And dont you dare fall asleep on the way home or well leave you in the car all night Tell me did you have good time Pollys pointers Use vinegar on glass oven door DEAR POLLY Can you advise me of good way to clean the inside glass on my range oven door have tried number of commercial glass cleaning products but nothing will remove the bakedon grease will watch for answers MILDRED DEAR MILDRED Onc dealer in ranges suggests vinegar and water for such cleaning couple of others recommend that nonabrasive bar cleaner that many use on windows and that makes powder on the glass and can be washed off Both say it does not scratch and has worksd successfully on stoves that have been fire damaged POLLY DEAR POLLY recently purchased natural leather handbag that is spotted with blood that seeped through the package when was carrying fresh beef The blood dripped through to the leather so would like to know how to remove these stains as the purse is light tan color Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated DEBBIE DEAR DEBBIE There must necessarily be lot of its in any answer to your problem If the purse is syn thctlc leather that has finish on it such stains might be wiped off with cloth dipped in mixture of household am monia and water Do test in an inconspicuous spot first Or you might try sponglng with cold water and then rub with the suds from detergent and water mixture This is no sure cure because of the possibility that the blood might have penetrated into the leather but it might be worth try Have you thought of having the purse dyed recently had some leather shoes dyed that came out most satisfactorily Some even buy such kits and dye leather themselves But be sure you change the color to one as dark as the spots POLLY DEAR POLLY If you have lined winter slacks remove the lining for summer and find them more comfortable Use the lining to make shorts slacks for little girls or anything else you would like Also cut out the good lining in winter coats that are worn and use the lining for making other garments MARGARET
