everythingout She was responsible for giv ing Port Perry the winning edge in the extraend win over Windsor in the final game of the threeday tournament at the Barrie Curling Club Miller Ban Canadas most respected year old whisky So smooth so mellow so very mixable For curling crown Unbeaten right to end Port Perry wins title Final score Port Perry Windsor6 Port Perry finished the 12 team tournament with perfect 70 record including three wins which needed extra ends Skip of the Ontario champion ship team is Lee Howsam Shes one of three 15yearolds on the club The others are Alison McNab second and Vicky Fairman as lead This is the second year the four girls have curled together but by far the most impressive One reason was in the change of positions Last year we had Elaine throwing skip rock in front of the younger girls We didnt have the success we wanted This year we put her in the mid dle and that smoothed every thing out Philip said This year weve put it all together Besides winning the junior Tankard and qualifying for the provincial final the Port Perry rink captured the Lake Ontario Secondary School Association championship the Central On tario Secondary School Associa tion title and missed berth in the Ontario Winter Games by one rock Shes Elaine had hot hand all week Philip added Elliott has been involved in the curling program initiated by Philip for the last five years the rest of the girls are in their third season There was an extra incentive for the Grade 12 student as Wednesday was her mothers birthday what birthday present said Philip who had few anxious moments when Windsor counted two in the eighth end to force the extra end Windsor had 51 record heading into the deciding game against Port Perry Earlier in the day Windsor knocked out St Catharines with 86 win while other semifinal round saw Port Perry take 85 win from Kingston Port Perry started slow in the championship final Windsor skip Pat Burt took advantage of missed shots by Port Perry to apply pressure until missed takeout attempt on her part in the seventh end allowed Port Perry to count four and move into lead The fourpoint end lifted the spirits of the Port Perry rink which had shown signs of frustration following unac customed misses But it was Burts turn to make the big shot She had last rock of the final end and was forced to take out the Port Perry counter while sticking for two which she did to force the extra end Elliott had made number of key shots in the final game and she tied for double takeout which just missed by inches but left her rock biting the left of the eightfoot circle Elliott got another shot at the Windsor counter this time bouncing it out while her rock stayed to leave Port Perry countingtwo Burt couldnt find an opening big enough to squeeze through on her final rock She Elaine really pulled out for us said Howsam when the title was safely theirs The Port Perry Skie considered the championship game the most nerve racking of the tourna merit Rae Collier convener of the OFSSAA championships told the girls in his closing remarks that he was proud to have con vened this thing just on the calibre of the curling All those nights Its all been worthwhile said Philip That was even better than Dixie Dixie was where the junior Tankard was held As an added note the entire team could be together again next year Two wins for Knights
