Borden will become bat tleground during the first two weeks in June when simulated air attack program known as Exercise Georgian Strikestarts The exercise will involve about 3000 members of the Special Service Forces SSF based in Petawawa and Lon don Ont as well as 140 aircraft including transport and fighter planes and helicopters said BrigGen Andrew Christie commander of SSF BrigGen Christie said the sounds and sights of war such as artillery fire low flying planes and troops along county iv +4 When roads will become familiar to tion parachute force made up residents in the area of CFB Borden and Meaford just north of Owen Sound All fighting will take place within the confines of the military reserve but it can happen day or night he said The only activity outside the military area will be helicopter traffic between CFB Borden and Meaford and the movement of troops along Highways 11 400 90 and 26 said BrigGen Christie Exercise Georgian Strike also carried out last year is part of the SSFs annual train ing cycle and is designed to train the men for war and keep them battle ready he said The SSF is quick reac of infantry artillery engineer ing and medical units and an exercise of this nature is to practise the orchestration of these forces BigGen Christie said CONSIDERED ALLY During the exercise CFB Borden will be considered country allied to Canada which is conquered by an invading force he said It will be the SSFs job to attack the enemy and drive them out BrigGen Christie said The Camp Borden area is idea because it contains an air field and parachute
