face the task of deciding on budgets as preliminary to set ting 1977 county tax levies on its 33member municipalities With continuing inflation and higher prices the new council Will have problems in en deavors to hold theline to this past years figures as some members have stressed should bethe aim Already it is clear that some departments Will be seeking budget increases which means that there Will have to be some cutbacks on lessneeded ser Vices to hold down the levies Otherwise more government assistance will be necessary and Since this money comes from the taxpayers pockets as well as the county tax levies there would be little overall gain WELFARE REQUEST preliminary request which is subject to review by the new linance and general govern ment committee before sub mitted to the councd as Whole for ultimate approval proposed budget of $2602941 for welfare and social services This would amount to an iii crease of $109579 over the 1976 total Of the $2602941 total $1924390 was for general welfare aSSistance up from $1882335 Salaries for this department called for $259409 total mileage $33601 fringe benefits and compensation $34652 day care serVices $57068 homemaker serVices $57068 and supplementary aid $31 418 Other items asked included amounts ol $32338 $27743 and $8616 under Homes for delinquent Juveniles Government assistance pays large share of the costs it was shown
